Hey anyone ever use southern ag.BT.to get rid of fungus gnats are you supposed to spray the whole plant?and pour the mixture in the dirt of my indoor pots?and can you mix in diatomaceous earth right after using the bt thanks in advance

I had a big pest problem during my last grow (spider mites, fungus gnats) and I used neem oil, it's an organic insecticide/fungicide, I added 1 teaspoon per L of water and sprayed at night and added it in a few feedings. Few days later there was nothing and never had a problem with them again. It's also meant to be good for the plants

The doctor is in.
BT works great on the larvae. It doesn't go on the plants, just in the soil.
You'll want to get some of those yellow sticky traps for the adults (the ones with wings flying around)


I lay them on top of the soil. Pick them up when watering and put them back after.

You take care of both the larvae and the adults at the same time and in 7-10 days you'll be gnat free without putting any chemicals in your soil or on your plants.
 
Thank you for the info!.... is diatomaceous earth effective iv done a little reading on it but its kind of vague.. and is one better than the other?could i use both or would that screw thing up?

Hey bud. Now I have not tried this myself but you can research it. From what I read you can cover your medium with steel wool and that will fix it. Apparently the adults get shredded when trying to get to the medium to lay eggs and emerging babies get shredded trying to get out. What I read says after 2 weeks the issue is resolved as they cannot reproduce. As I say I am no expert on this and have never had gnats to try it but it might be worth looking into.

I'm not a big fan of DE. I would just top dress with some good EWC and let the hypoaspis miles have a feeding frenzy. And yellow sticky traps for the remaining fliers. I like to put the traps on the end of a skewer with a clothes pin to clip it to. Keeps it off the soil. But I haven't needed any traps for years now.

Bti is another good option. Or all 3. Bti, EWC, and yellow stickies.

Poop to get rid of gnats? Not a good idea. It makes the soil hold more moisture and it’s poop. :wall: :wall: :wall:

I was just trying to help man, lol. I assumed you were in soil.

I think of diatomaceous earth as like a mine field. They have to step on it, but they still won't die instantly. Where the hypoaspis miles and rove beetles will actively seek and destroy any enemies, including spider mites and other shit.

DE can and will kill off my beneficial predators that I want. So it's not for me.

I'm still using the same soil from 2 1/2 years ago and haven't seen a gnat in over 2 years.

I'd definitely look into neem oil too mate. It helps with lots of things. It can help prevent/combat root rot, bud rot, pests and other fungi. It also acts a mild growth stimulant and keeps the plants a healthy colour. It's also relatively cheap. Good luck buddy

Also never use as foliage spray during flowering and stop watering it a few weeks before harvest, I'd say 4 weeks is a good number
 
I'm sick of getting these gnats with the coco bags, think I'll open them all next time and dry the fucking fuck out it before it ever enters the grow....

Hell I think I'm just going full hydro or is it mental ? o_O
