Debate on LST

Hi everyone! I'm a new grower and am currently on my 2nd grow, first in an actual room instead of a makeshift set up my husband had years ago.
I am approximately 6 weeks in on this grow and started LST with NO topping for my autoflower. My husband says to only do the main branch, while I've been doing not only the main stem, but also branches coming from the main stem...to create an even canopy. He tells me that I have stunted my plants by doing off shoot branches.
Am I doing this incorrectly?
Please advise me..and is it to late to fix it?

I ALWAYS remind my wife to listen to her husband!

I think the main goal is to have an even canopy. So I tie everything down to stay even.

Thank you
I usually top and then LST when I do that stuff. But sometimes they don't really need topping first. The main thing is to keep the canopy even, or make sure the big ones are lower than the smaller ones you want to grow quicker.

Those lights aren't the best, so ask for help when you upgrade. New lights would blow your husbands mind probably, lol. Nothing wrong with those for side or supplemental lighting though if you ask me.

And do you have drain holes in those buckets? Are those the 2 gals?

Yes they are 2 gal buckets and I do have 5-6 drain holes in them..
I told hubs that I'm going to save my pennies for better lighting (and yes will most definitely ask for input here).
This grow room was put together on a shoestring budget and built (refurbished) for under $300 using materials like the mylar that was leftover from a project he did last year.
As stated above I am a new grower, and am growing for personal use.. but I do want maximum yeild, so any input or advice is welcomed!!!

No you have not stunted it. Quite the contrary. This is how you get explosive growth. If you keep it up you will have to remove excess shoots, which is not a bad thing...

Removing the main top is not going to noticeably stress your plant. It is a good idea especially with AutoFlowers to prevent the main cola from dominating the plant. If you want to train plants I would suggest looking into Photoperiod plants so you can veg them longer so they can recover and you don't have to worry about their hormone cycles being messed up.

Also, when switching a photoperiod plant to flower you save 50% on your light bill vs AutoFlower where there are no savings unless you sacrifice yield/quality.

There's no rule saying to only LST the main branch. On the contrary, as soon as you see another branch getting higher, tie it down to the same height as the rest of the branches, so the canopy is even ( just as you said ).
So: wife 1 - 0 husband :hump:
