I'm about to start a dwc grow, i've only grown in soil before. I've read A LOT and every once and a while you read something and cant find it later, but is the air pump supposed to be left on all the time? or is there an outlet timer needed for it? also, any other tips that you don't usually find in every post or guide to dwc growing?

I will further reiterate, ALL THE TIME!!! If the air pumps fail the plants will quickly stagnate and die without oxygen, in a matter of hours they can die.

You're right to a degree. The pump does need to stay on 24-7. But Ive had power go out overnight and not get turned back on until 4pm the following day due to weather. No pump, no light and no air.....All I could do is wait it out and hope for the best.

The plants didnt miss a beat.

i usually put the air pump higher then water level just in case pump goes bad or electricity goes out you dont want the water backing up to the pump...the air stone i usually put it right under the roots..and as timer i dont put any, pump runs 27/7
