defoliation?

Ok so this is my first real grow. I've bs'd with cfls but that wasn't workin well. I'm runnin a 400hps plants from seed from last years pollinated outdoor. I've heard to pluck sucker leaves (those mini fan leaves) to allow light penetration. I'm also in the end of 1st week of flower. Askin cuz they are short and bushy as hell id post a pic but idk what mobile way is easiest I'm on a shitty droid.
Btw I've seen a lot of cali growers whatsup 209!

Man.. dig..

this is your first grow..

Don't fuck it up with what can at the very least be considered 'advanced' methods.

This is the best advice you will get.. take it or leave it.. give your plant the best environment you know how, and let it be a plant.. don't even touch it unless you have to, feed it less than they say to, and water her less than more given a choice of the two spectrums.

Save the experimenting for a time when the results will be less detrimental to your satisfaction of a decent harvest.

Just one guy's thoughts.

If you have never grown a plant, focus only on growing a plant, not removing parts of it.

As you get a better thumb no one can stop you from doing all kinds of fun stuff.

i agree with Max on this one, definitely got to learn the basics before the advance stuff. and whoever told you to remove the sucker leaves (small leaves next to the buds or new growth) shouldn't be giving any noobie advise like that.
if your hell bent on doing it anyway, i suggest you do a lot of research on this topic before actually doing it.

Ok, first hand experience with a buddy defoliating my plants...

DONT DO IT... the 2 plants he did it to the buds have completely halted growth, whereas, the ones next to it have 7 or 8 new calyx bulges with long white pistals coming out. Obviously new growth for the bud...my buddy who did it tells me everytime hes down there how much he hates himself for doing it.

All the same strand and clones off same plants inside extremely set room.

I'll go on record as saying I have remved more than a few leaves at a time for the sole reason of getting more light to the lower areas, and thus far I am pretty cold on it.. As it's nothing scientific I wont discount it's potential though.

Whenever I have removed more than a few leaves at any one given time (in flower) I have said later 'I probably wish I hadn't done that'.. but that is just me. My plant kind of tells me.. 'hope you had fun, because now I have to pay for it'.

I do remove big fans over time here and there for ventilation, keep things cleaned up, other than that, these days they tell me when they are to come off, I never ask first.

That's just me.. it's not a technique I practiced with vigor or a lot of research.. but I get to where I am totally satisifed with my grows, I don't need to do more, and I aint looking to do potentially less, so just leaving them live their lives as peacefully and stress free (outside of all the LST I do.. *L) as can be in between harvests.

If the science isn't enough, try it both ways for yourself. Any run that we've done that included defoliation, resulted in not meeting our 5.5 lb/4k minimum goal. Maybe your rooms run differently but here, there is no denying the loss in weight.
