Dezracers' First Journal

I thought I'd go ahead and start one of these for my ever evolving grow. I'll be starting with what's going on today and going forward from here. If anyone would like to see anything from before today feel free to do a search or ask me and I'd be happy to answer any questions.

I set out to try many different types of growing in order to find what best suits me and have tried a lot for the short time I've been growing. I will still be using some different types of growing for a while before settling on one so stick around and watch my successes and failures, lol.

Right now I have a 4x8 scrog under a 1000w HPS on a lightrail 3.5 with a 7 RPM motor as well as a soil vertical grow that's finishing up and clearing out so that I can move the rest of my equipment to the site where the 4x8 scrog is. In the scrog I have 2 White Widow, 2 Headband, 1 Cataract Kush and 3 Afghan Kush. In the vert there's a pretty good mix of small plants that are either 12/12 from seed or 12/12 from root with the exception of one big Raspberry Cough plant that stands almost 6' tall and has started to really fill in the gaps between buds. The others are all Cataract Kush, Headband, White Widow and Jack Herer.

Vegging I've got a Purple Haze, a Headband, 2 DOGs and two seedlings that are Bubba Kush and Blue Widow. The DOG will be flowered soon and the others are to be used as mother plants. There's about 35 or so clones that are now vegging in the bubble cloners and I will be putting the best of them into the next grow that will start soon. I just need some time to set it up at the new place which is now looking like it'll be a 1000w in either a 40"x40" tent or a 4'x4' tent. I bought the 4x4 for a veg tent but it makes more sense to use it with the 1000w light than the 40x40 which I actually bought for a 600w grow.

I've got a pretty good mix of equipment at the moment as you can see and once everything is set up along side the scrog I'll be geting rid of some stuff that I don't need. I just went a bit crazy recently snatching up every good deal I found between craigslist and ebay to get stuff I thought I could use.

DEZ - where did you buy your "screen" - I see a lot of growers using that - where'd you get it? Obviously the 2x4's are the easy part to find.

That screen is green plastic fence material found at Lowe's in the outside garden area. Next time I'll be using the coated metal fencing like Whodatnation. It's the same stuff Herk is using but is painted or powdercoated, not sure which. If the plants are well established before going under the screen they will put a lot of stress on the screen and this stuff is flexing quite a bit from a few of the plants. It's holding just fine with some of them though so I think it has a lot to do with how big the plants are.

nice. Thanks for sharing - I checked for that type at home depot last weekend - couldn't find it. we have a lowe's too - i'll check there this weekend.
Grow is looking good and really starting to take a shape!

Gave the girls their first feeding yesterday and in 24hrs they've had substantial growth. The most I've seen in my grows so far so I'm wondering, is it the 1K light or what?

The screen isn't filling out completely but it's good enough to satisfy me for my first scrog attempt. The next one will be better

I didn't see it at Home Depot either so I think it's just one of those things...

What they doo sell though if you don't find what you're looking for at Lowe's is construction fence that's orange. It's not as rigid as this stuff but you can pull it nice and tight without it breaking so I think it would work just the same as this stuff. I have lots of it and considered using it but saw this and figured I'd give it a shot since it's cheap to buy.

DEZ - you're screen is filling out nicely - remember, after you flip to 12/12... they will still double if not tripple in size... that screen is going to be more than you can handle..... and yes it's the 1k light - trust me - I have 2 of them flowering 9 girls right now... and was forced to put a screen in because they are so out of control on the height..... 2 1/2 weeks into flower, and they're still growing like mad!! how many days into veg are you?

They've been under 12/12 since Christmas Day, I think it was, and just started showing flowers a few days ago. They weren't showing any signs of deficiency and some of them are pretty sensitive on the nutes so they've just been living off the FFOF soil up to last night.

wow - that's awesome - I put my 9 girls into 12/12 on christmas day too - - and they're in FFOF too.... you have a great taste - and great ideas DEZ. My girls are just now starting to show signs of flower too - I was getting worried like something was wrong.... your screen will fill - don't sweat it..... you'll be like me - bitching that they're out of control in another two weeks.!

Being that this my first attempt at scrog and I've never seen one in person, I've definitely made a couple of mistakes with it. I should've vegged them under a screen, at least for the last couple of weeks or so to start training them into it and I should've set the screen height lower. My only concern now is that some of them may still get quite a bit taller than the others making a really uneven canopy.

I've got other plants going in two other setups at the moment too and will be adding one more in the next few days hopefully. The fourth one will be very temporary though. I want to empty out the original vert room I built so I can thoroughly clean it and spray it down with some Gognats or the Takedown spray I have before adding any more plants to it. I've got five good size plants in a tent right now and there's still close to a dozen small plants in the vert room that are finishing up. I'll be putting some well established clones in another tent in the next few days and I'll let them veg under one of the 600s with a MH bulb for a week or so before flowering them under a 600w HPS.

I have only posted pics in here of the scrog but there's a tent with five plants under a 1000w HPS and the vert room going too right now. I the veg room the bubble cloner has been taken over by some of the clones I put in it and there's two Cataract Kush clones that I recently put into DWC buckets along with one DOG clone in a party cup and two seedlings in party cups that I'll grow out for moms. The two 600s in the vert room are getting swapped out for the 1000w light that's in one of the tents so I'm only tying up one light in there while the plants finish up and then I'll have two 600s going in tents, the 1000w in the vert and the 1000w scrog going until the vert room is emptied out.
Once all of that happens I'll be either taking down the vert room or modifying it a little, most likely modifying it, and the plants in one of the tents will go in the vert room with whatever else I can come up with since it holds so many plants. If the vert room comes down though It'll just mean that I've decided to put the hydro vert back together inside a tent which is something I've been thinking about. I had one almost complete and then took it down to make room for the second 1000w grow since I didn't have enough plants to fill it properly.

wow - you have a lot going on!! I need another light too - and a smaller tent just for clones..... maybe a 400..... i don't know... but I'm having electrical problems.... because of my 1000s... so any more willb e a problem

hey dez i tribute my rapid rate of growth to 2 things #1 is hydro #2 is the 1000 w light over a 3x3 tub normaly 1000w=a 4x4 tub my buds get large & solid my next tub will be 36''x44'' a slight increase in floor space but still has a lot of lumens per sq. ft.[over 10,000] i figure i can get 1lb. & still have large dense buds ive finaly pretty much got things dialed in a few changes in store but nothing major im that close

I've got one 1000w over the 4x8 scrog on the lightrail and the other is in a 4x4 tent right now. There's a 600 in a 40"x40" tent and two 600s in my 5x5 vert room. Planning to maybe swap out the 1000 that's in the tent for the two 600s in the vert room to free up a 600. The 4x4 tent isn;t really full anyway so I'm sure the 600 will be sufficient.

yes - we will all be chopping around the same time - my strains are 8, 9 10 and 12 week flower times between the 5 strains I have.... Dez - you have too many tents over there for me to keep up with- my goodness! I though I was bad!

It's partly due to me being in the process of moving my grow. I didn't want to move the ones in the vert room so I'm just starting other grows while I'm letting these finish and eventually it'll be empty. When it is it'll get revamped a little and filled back up but it'll be fewer plants next time that are bigger.

Was over doing some work at the new place and the scrog plants are blowin up. Two days in a row there's been significant growth.

I'll get some pics tonight if I remember my camera. I'll get pics of the other plants over there too while I'm at it.
