Dirty Harold's Adventure Land

Feb 1, 2011 (Day 1)
I'll be growing in an Aerogarden deluxe, two strains: Dutch Passion Feminized Mazar and Skunk Red Hair from Amsterdam seed bank. Today we received the grow anything kit and are anxious to get ready. The grow pods aren't all that light proof so once the plant is strong enough to stand up by it's self I will be adding a styrofoam insulation layer above the sponge grow medium.

Came home from my Astronomy lab today to find that the Mazar had popped around 1230pm. PH is seeming to go a bit basic on it's own so I'm just posting the adjusted level.

Mazar has grown out passed the paper roof but I'm going to keep it in the grow dome until tonight or possibly tomorrow morning. I can't capture the details of the stem but it has fuzzy little hairs growing out of it, it's so cute, I'm proud of her. Once she straightens out I'm going to add the styrofoam to protect her from mold and algae build-up. The PH is remaining constant now (very relieving). Keep up the good work ladies!

So, the Red Hair managed to grow above the paper without rooting... kind of weird. I did my best to point the root in the right direction without touching the root itself. If it doesn't start rooting itself by tonight I think I'm gonna cut a slit in the sponge and root it myself. Other than that, Mazar got her styrofoam sun blocker 9000 installed and is ready for some prime vegging. I'm also going over a few ideas in my head for a SCROG setup on these two before I clone Mazar.

So yesterday I cut a slit down the Red Hair's sponge and rooted it myself but the plant is looking kind of sick, it's leaned up against the paper top and the stem is 'S' shaped as it goes down into the sponge. I'm gonna wait it out but I think this plant might be a lost cause. I'm thinking of starting the micro nutrients today so I can stimulate some root growth. The recommended amount is 2.5ml per gallon but I think since it's still pretty early I'll just start with 1ml in my 1 gallon reservoir. I'll be using Fox Farm Bushdoctor Microbe brew and eventually I'll be adding my other two nutrients, Humboldt nutrients Natural Grow and Advanced nutrients Big Bud.
No change in Mazar but she's still looking healthy. She's probably just working on her root structure at this stage.
Also in an attempt to lower the reservoir temp I turned down the thermostat and lowered the room temp to 65 while the lights were out and now the res is at a much lower temp to the touch. The thermometer I bought doesn't measure the temp range I need so I'm still going by feel, but I'd say the temp is around 68-72 now.
