my room and how my 600W HPS lookd before:
and sure you can take your HPS appart .. but please be carefull .. use comment sens and logic .. and dont plug it in while you touch it .. keep a eye on it fist time you run it .. keep a fire allarm close by your room aso.
like the heat a HPS make (400 celcius outside the bulb and even hotter inside) the AMP is also pretty high a deathly if you mess with it ..
so if its totaly uncommen for you to work with electricity and you maybe have 10 thumps aswell I wouldnt advice it .. get some who know about it to help you atlest ..
if its to mouch for you .. you could go the way StraitJacket did .. with open tubes .. might not be as effectiv as a closed tube/hood .. but it do get the job done .. think he said it did lower his temps a few degress celcius ..
a hole on top of your refletor with a pice of tube to your vent might work .. as it will pull most of the hot air away ..
and as I said before .. heat with HPS lamps is no joke .. so good to see you atlest do some research here .. a lot dont take it seriously ..
I live in Denmark .. Scandinavia so we actualy dont have that high temps .. tho summer is here so 22-30 celcius is commen ..
and if I have lets say .. 25C out doors and its a sunny day .. I can easily have 28C indoors wile sun is on ..
and with 28C ther can easily get up to 33C in my grow room .. dont like that .. why I build my hood .. hopefully it can get my temps down them 2-3C
btw
ventilation is not only to keep temps down .. it also provide your plants with fresh air/Co2 .. witch is atlest as importent as keeping 76-82F
