DIY transdermal patches?

I have made my own suppositories out of cannabis-infused coconut oil, and they work fairly well for me, but (no pun intended) I'd like to also go the less-humorous transdermal route. (Yeah I know I just said "trans." Huh huh huh huh. )

Anyway, does anyone know what "permeation enhancers" are used with cannabis patches? I know DMSO would work, but FDA frowns on DMSO, so checked online and found a bunch of sites that make my brain hurt cuz I suck at chemistry, but it appears that "fatty alcohols" might be an alternative, specifically lauryl alcohol, which I've never heard of until now.

Any ideas?bongsmilie
 
some places are using small electrical current to introduce medicine into the system. just some cotton pads soaked in your infused oil. some metal plate to act as electrodes and a DC power source or battery just another ideal to look into. was not aware that the FDA did not like DMSO but then they don't like cannabis ether.
 
high concentration of THC in shae butter? i remember something about the ecig oil stuff being able to absorb into the skin. vegetable glycerin?

Yeah DMSO is only approved for one bladder condition, nothing else. Fears of liver damage I think.
 
I've been trying to come up with a td patch for 3 yrs for 2 of my MS patients. I'm still at the drawing board.

1 way is to infuse a large wound care bandaid pad with my cbd topical or tincture. But seems like it wouldn't fully absorb into the skin and waste a lot.

DMSO is supposed to be phenomenally good at transporting chemicals straight to the bloodstream BUT if you have any kind of dangerous chemical already on your skin it can be bad news, I'm told. Like one friend of a friend had a sore back and put some kind of lotion on it. When that didn't work, he put DMSO on top of the lotion and ended up in the ER with lanolin poisoning. Allegedly. Can't swear that's true, but still, I'd be careful.

Also, I've never used DMSO but I understand that it travels so fast you can taste it after it contacts the skin. That's a bit scary.
