They smell stronger when you break the resin glands from movement and touch.

I have an old landrace budding up outside in the garden right now (an old seed I planted from the late 1980's), and I found that it smells the skunkiest at both dawn and dusk.

So what about past times when I've had a bad of weed inside pocket and can smell it burning out of my pocket without touch or breaking

Yes they do, but it's not because of the light, but rather the heat from the light.
