I'm buying a few. I already have 5 CFLs, but I want to mix. I only have one plant. Do I still have to buy a special ballast for a 50w HPS?
im pretty positive HID lighting needs ballasts to run...even the lower wattage ones. i went to lowes and home depot and they sell bulbs ranging from 50w-400w HPS and MH but they do not carry the ballasts needed...stupid retail stores!!!! damn them...so im on the hunt for somewhere i can find a ballast.
plz, correct me if im wrong.
it is possible to get lower wattage HID lighting with built in ballasts also.
Ice
just get it at hgs on ebay
much cheaper and easier
or get a industrial light that has a built in ballast like i did. You may have to wire it for a regular socket
Yes they need a ballast, but at this rate of wattage its most likely built into the socket module. If you have good electrician skills you can easily build your own ballast. when shopping for lights Dont be shy to asking questions, simply explain your needing vast good quality light for a garage,workshop..etc. Most of the time they know your growing and dont care they will(most older ones) "ive found" jump to work showing me shit l've never heard of. seriously my last tripp to home cheapo this guy showed 5 different light setups i never thought about home cheapo even having. and remember HID lighting is everywhere if your sneaky and lucky enough.
Above your head, most street lights are hps or mh hid lights. older businesses built before 2000 have hid lighting. lights for signs, golf courses,warehouses,etc.. its ghetto but you do what you gotta do.What are likely places to find HPS lights?
