smell goes for nothing(i just got rid of 3 males). very stinky.
how old is the plant??????????.
there are lots of ways of telling before you go 12/12.

Some people swear they can guess with 90% accuracy or so which are male and female by the smell. I've tried it and sure enough it does appear that males have a different more musky smell and females have a more sweet bud smell even without bud. But in order to tell the difference you need a few plants to compare. Rub the stem and sniff.

i tried this smelling shit and after smelling the first plant the rest smelt the same to me but 3 were male and 3 were fem.
6 plants to rub and sniff(did not work for me).
all 6 smelled like green green green???????????.
(maybe i just aint got the dogs nose).

I have actually tried to tell the difference between males and females depending on smell and was right most of the time.
Having said this, I still wait till they show sex because I would hate to be wrong and chop a female. It's a tough call so I pretty much gave up on the whole sexing by smell.

It's just an educated guess. No you'd never want to chop based on smell.
You do have to kind of have a sensitive nose. If you can tell the subtle differences between some perfumes you can do this. If not, just wait for hairs and balls. (hmm that sounded sick.) You'll have to wait to see visual confirmation anyway. (that's better)
