Does This Sound Like A Dumb Idea?

I was thinking of making water proof trays to hold 16 plants and just put the exact amount of water/nutes that a plant would require per day in the tray and let the plants soak up what it needs rather than water each individually

way easier to make your own flood table.. probably be cheaper too

does that mean getting into hydroponics? i though that hydro was hard to master?
