Drying and Curing Not Going As Planned

Hi! First time grower. All seemed to go well. Grew three Bubblegum Kush plants. 7 weeks veg and 8 weeks flower. FoxFarms Happy Frog. No problems along the way. Fan leaves yellowed and fell off on two plants weeks 6-8 of flowering. One seemed textbook, the other turned purple. Third plant fan leaves yellowed quickly closer to harvest and still had lots of regular pistils. Hung in dark grow room at 65 degrees and 50% humidity for 8 days. In jars now for three days.

1st issue - made sissor hash to try it out and tasted like I was smoking chlorophyll. Nasty taste for about 12 hours.

2nd issue - Made hash with the popcorn buds and trim last night and came across two seeds! Hash was nice and tan last night, but drier this morning and much darker.

3rd issue - I have read here that you can smoke before curing so I thought I would do so today. However when breaking up a bud that is dry to the touch it is also very sticky and seemingly moist. I really don't want to go through the chlorophyll thing again so I am hesitant to try it.

Being a first grow I don't know what I am looking at. I suspect that I had a plant turn and didn't recognize it. That the FoxFarm nutrients ran out before harvest stressing the plants. That if they were pollinated, started developing seeds and then I harvested, that I did so at the wrong time. The trichomes were all milky and many were amber so I thought I was good. Someone with a lot more experience may see some obvious things here that I can't see. Please chime it if you know what's what. Thanks!

Seeds are likely because you stressed the plant. You wouldnt have pollen present and only produce 2 seeds.

Could taste harsh for a few reasons. Did you give just pure water 2 weeks before harvest?

The dried but will likely be a little wet inside still this will be taken care of over time with a proper cure. If you find it too wet, dry longer and slower next time (60% rh)

Leaves turning yellow at end of flowering is normal. Usually the lower fans will turn yellow. Pictures would help. The bud shouldn't be moist after 8 days. This means you have to much humidity or weren't using a fan. Try putting the buds on a rack with a fan in the room. Not directly on the buds. I would suggest reading up on drying properly. I have always had luck with a oscillating fan blowing underneath my hanging plants and they should be dry after 5 or 6 days. The longer they dry the less chlorophyll but you run the risk of mold.

Chalk it up to your first grow...relax. I know lm the biggest hypocrite, I'm the MOST impatient! Your on the right track, just read more. Another poster said stress from your seeds...I agree. And I've had great weed after cure, that was fucking horrible scissor/finger hash. I prefer taste over quantity, and I have no quantity issue.

Best advice to I got was to cure your girls at <70% ( i like 62-65%) I've only had issues above that...lost half ounce once to mold (newb at 80%....hold my beer, got this....nope I da fuckd up)...learned quick. Get bovada humid packs if you can't monitor your gauges. No offense by that, but I get it...life gets in the way...goddamn kids school...JK love my kids. They were learning about cloning and propagation today....my daughter SCHOOLED them!

Did you hang the plants whole? If you did, 8 days probably was not enough to dry, depending on the size of them

If people smoked freshly harvested bud they would mostly hate it and never smoke again. You can knock yourself out pretty good by smoking the plant right after harvest. As each day goes by, it improves.

Scissorhash or any smoke right off the plant with no cure time is pretty rough and full of chlorophyll

If your buds are damp you cut them down to soon and or jar them too soon. I personally like to go from hung to paper bag to jar.

Normally scissor hash isn't that green to be honest. Makes me think you used scissors on a lot of fan leafs instead of just pulling them off but you said you lost them all anyway so a little odd. It's more brown usually.

You jarred way too early, leave it two weeks and check it smokes after the first week.

You are right no one needs to jar bud but it taste pretty green when its first dry but that will dissapear after a week so thats the reason it needs to hang for two weeks not one then jar.

Harvesting in the dark cycle helps aliitle with chlorophyll taste but everything tastes like hay fresh uncured

Good weed does not taste like hay uncured. If it taste like that you have dried it too quickly under poor conditions. Curing at that point will make it a little better but shit in shit out. Properly dried weed tastes good from the get go and refined with a cure.

I dry, jar, and smoke. Weed tastes great from day one. Most people that say their weed tastes like hay either dried too fast or harvested early. There is no need for a convoluted curing process burping jars multiple times a day and checking the readings on a hygrometer. I just jarred some bud up yesterday that had been drying for awhile. It tastes and smells great this morning without any curing.

Its 100% correct that proper drying removes the hay smell if there is any. And while its true it tastes great from day 1 the buzz SUCKS lol imo, at least compared to 10 days later.

Curing does work, and does improve some strains over time. Theres a reason those outdoor Cali growers sometimes don't smoke their stuff for 3 mos after harvest.

But most dispensaries and high volume growers who sell a lot don't bother to cure. It is better cured as it goes past 6 weeks old imo. Uncured, some grows will fade in strength and flavor compared to curing.

In my mind the critical period is about the first week after harvest.

Wow, thank you all for your replies. Got tied up over the weekend and didn't check back. I did get the humidity packs and have them all at 62%. I did dry with a fan under the hanging plants and I did separate each plant into 9 or 10 pieces each. I have been surprised by the aroma. During flowering it was strong and excellent. Since harvest it has gone from somewhat hay like to kind of sour smelling and not as strong. Trichomes were about 30-40%.

Yea, that was the whole idea with this first grow. Learn, learn, learn. I did Bubblegum Kush, topped two of the three plants to see how that would go, used a Scrog. Having a great time tending to all the details and troubleshooting. I may have harvested a little early, dried a little too fast (temp got up to 88 for a little while with the big dehumidifier in there).
