Dual PC Grow 12/12 Bagseed*

Hello everyone. This will be my third journal that I have started here at RIU and hopefully the second that I finish. My last grow I was tring out some autos that did not work out due to some heat problems. I have since then readded in my 30W 2700k, germinated some recent bag seeds that I got from a friend. Out of six beans five of them hatched. They are currently on their second day under the light. Two have shown some green starting to break though.

So if you don't have anything to do or just intrigued by the grow sit back and pass the blunt...hopefully we will be here a while.

-Xander

P.S. I will get some pics up when some more progress is made. Wish me luck :leaf:

Hello everyone. It is day three under the lights and just got done with feeding. pH was 6.3 and 6.0 *is this good*. I currently have five red cups in one unit. Four out of five has started showing some green with the last one ironically named BagSeed#5 showing nothing. They are currently about an inch or two away from two 30W 2700k bulbs. The current temp is 82F at tops with a humidity at 25%. The overall hi/lows are 86F and 63F with humidity ranging from 16% to 47%.

These seeds are not feminized seeds so we are going to cross our fingers and hope for no males, mmk. However, more than likely I will be exterminating some males in the near future. With that said this means that this journal is going to follow and focus on this first group of seeds even though when the room comes available another seed will be germinated. I am going to start and proceed with intentions of having these units as perpetual units, however, as we look for a house in the up coming future plans might have to be altered.

Regardless, do enjoy the pictures. I have only brought three because the BS#4 was a bit to small to capture on my shitty BB camera.

Alright, so I have not been posting due to some heat issues I had, yet again. I have since then fixed the issue and will start posting some updates for this journal tonight.

Hehe, thanks for stoping by CT. I just got my second unit completely finished (broke a fan installing it). I have been quite busy lately, but I am going to get some pics and have an update soon. Probably tomorrow mourning. I think my little ladies might be nearing harvest time. Some of the hairs are turning a deep redish color. So pretty excited there, because I didn't see that on my last grow (pick a bit early I imagine). Anyways till tomorrow, happy tokin'.

Welp, I have found some astonishing tid-bit of information that I have never thought to focus on. Yesterday, I finished up on the supplies that I needed to get the second unit completely up and running. I got an extra fan -broke one during installation, paper clips for lsting, neem oil for fungi flies, and finally a few more thermometers.

If you are one of the few unfortunate people patiently helping me over the past few months you will know that I have been having a hellish problem with heat; no pun intended. Noted, after the installation of the fan and other supplies bought I started placing my new thermometers and decided to leave one out of the case to figure out the ambient temp of the room. Now my office, where the pc boxes are located, is a second bedoom/utility room and has many windows *that are old and leaky*. I always knew the temps in the office were higher than the rest of the apartment, however, I figured only by a few degrees as we run the AC day and night at 70F.

With that said, the temp results of the office were 80F at all times. Throughout the entire night and even during the day the office remains 80F, during the summer at least. The only good news from these test results is that the towers themselves are not causing the heat. Regardless, this room in this apartment is near impossible to grow in and what has been the prime cause of my heat issues. It doesn't matter how much cfm's you pull if it is 80-85F ambient outside.

Ugh, well with that bit of knowledge I do feel more confident in growing in the new apartment we have chosen. Still no move in date but should be within a month or two. It seems as though I made more progress with my DIY pc box then this room was allowing me to see. Thus, if you are new to this sort of thing do learn from my mistake and find out the ambient temp of the room first! The more you know!!

Anyways, I will be back tonight with some pics and a full update of the ladies.

Well guys I have a teaser update for ya'll. I accidentally deleted all but one photo so that is why I am calling it a teaser update.

Unit 1:
Temp - 86F@tops 91F@highest
Humidty - 32%

Unit 2:
-Waiting for sprouts-

Our appointment to look at our potential apartment went really well. Looks like I will be moving it July 1st if all goes well. I will do my best to keep up with the journal but since I am doing a dual perpetual grow it'll continue on for a good while even after the move. However, the good news is that the growing room will easily be at 70F at all times.

I have ordered some neem oil to get rid of some bugs I have identified as fungi flies. The neem oil should be in early next week and will be applied as soon as I get it. Anyone have any suggestions on how to apply? I was thinking about adding it to the feeding water.

Also, it seems as the little ladies at the top of this journal have maybe a two weeks left until they reach 75% red hairs. They are still quite small, but it'll be better than nothing that is for sure -as long as I can wait till it dries. :)

I have three seedlings awaiting sprout in the 2nd unit. They were potted today and there are two more seedlings that I will have to pot tomorrow. The 1st unit is completely full. Has two of the three ladies from the top pics and six new sprouts ranging from 1-2 weeks. I am trying to spread them out weekly so that way I get a harvest every week or two once the cycle gets rolling.

Welp, that is about all I can think of. I need some new soil if anyone can suggest a good type for 12/12 would be awesome. If the move goes well and does not suck me dry I am going to do one of two plans; order and install 1x100W CMH bulbs & ballasts per unit and install a dwc* homemade hydo kit in each unit OR install the 1x100W CMH bulbs & ballasts and build a 2x2x2.5H box for the new closet. Either way, eventually, I will hydo both the box and the pc boxes. I think I would like hydo a bit more, not to mention the positive gains.

Till next time folks,
-X

CT, can do man. I will probably post some up later on tonight. I have nothing else to do as of now so it should be a sure thing. I will warn you though, my set up is nearly identical to yours. As I was reading through your last journal I noticed quite a few similarities including even some of the same equipment like same thermometers lol.

Anyways, till tonight

Hello RIU,

So I have some long over due updates for everyone. Also, got some pics of the cases, ladies, and hopeful ladies. I am currently in the process of staggering the planting. I am germing 6 seeds each Sunday and planting 2-4/5 every week. Currently, I the first unit filled with 8 plants. Two flowering and 6 staggered between two weeks. I am using bag seed, thus, some will be males and will continue to fill the units as needed. I am running both units on a 12/12 from seed at 9pm-9am for coolest temps and stealth. I have an all purpose organic (3-8-8) feed I will start using at about 3-4 weeks (any suggestions?).

Inside the each case, I am running 3x30W cfls with a cool tube top and an intake and exhaust for the growing area, too. Using DVD cases as shelving and lsting I will keep the plants at the top.

Anyways, I hope that gets anyone back up to date. If you have any questions or concerns be sure to ask. If you have any questions on how to build a PC grow I will be making a tutorial to show how to build one for under $100/125. Once I put the pics and descriptions together I will link it in this journal and my sig so be sure to look for that.

Getting back to the journal;

UNIT 1:

BS#1 - Going to name this little lady, Ivy. This little lady is looking good. Stinky to the touch and has hairs starting to turn red.

BS#4 - About a week behind Ivy. Decided to name this ol woman Lushus. Stinky to the touch and lime green. A bit less dense than Ivy but still looking good and has started to show redness on the hairs, too.

BS#5 & 6 - Two weeks in. Working on their 2/3 set of fan leaves. Good green and looks healthy.

BS#7, 8, 9, & 11 - One week behind 5 & 6. Working on their 2/3 set of fans leaves. Also, a good green and looks healthy.

UNIT 2:

BS#10 - So I guess I lied, because there is a new sprout in unit 2. Looks good, nice sturdy stem and early greenery.

Have two more cups but they probably wont sprout. Also, I am suppose to germ tonight but since I will be packing soon I might put it off to stagger it a bit more and to help me free up some time.

Now on to the pictures;

Peace,
X

I don't quite have time for a full update tonight. Not much has changed inside the case. 89F highest. Used neem oil to removes some white/fungi flies which worked quite well but will need to repeat the process a few more times.

Ct,

Until I get over to the other apartment and get settled in I have decided to not germinate any more. I have a full case with two flowering and one in the second case. I might need to retool my strategy a bit. Right now I am trying for a sog of perpetual, so do you think I should reduce the plant number to 4 or 5? Also, if I done the 1/2 week veg cycle I would not be able to run perpetual in that unit. Do you think this would be worth it? The first week of August or last week of July I will be getting a free check and was thinking about upgrading the lighting to a 100w CMH or building the units hydro boxes and running less plants; any suggestions? I have a few 'free seeds' of hq but since I lost 10 auto flowers to heat issues I figured I better practice with bs first. All these are currently bs, separated only by from when I got them and put into small bags. Thanks for any advise in advance.

Peace,
Xander

yo x,

yea man personally i think that is to many plants for a pc case. and upgrading to a cmh would be cool. i believe v12 uses that light. i recomend veging for a week so you can get the roots established. the first week is super important for the roots more than the leaves or above the surface.

Hello all,

So I have finally got established in my new apartment, got unpacked, and got the internet up and running again. So it is time for an update in the ole' journal. As expected my temps fell to a stable 84-85F (completely closed even for a period of days) with the highest I have seen is 85F since I have lived in the new apartment. I have, also, done my second dosing of neem oil to get rid of the fungi/white flies. So far the neem oil is working very well. After first spraying there were only a few left, and after the second spraying I only saw one during the watering.

Something that I need to complete are: finish mylaring both units, build the light traps for both units, and wire up a fabric softner in July. In August I am going to buy all the equipment needed for hydolization (lol) because I am going to convert to hydro. I have decided to do this before I install the 100w CMH bulbs because I believe at th end of August I will be building a small box for my closet >=]

UNIT 1: Watered tonight - 6.4 & 6.3 pH - Temp 78F (door open) Highest 85F@tops - Humidity 38%

Ivy [BS#1] - Completely full of bud. Looks like a small giant cola. Smells like lemon lime with a bit of sour taste left in the nostril afterwards. White hairs are slowly turning a amber red color. Only about 25% of the white hairs are amberish.

Lushus - [BS#4] - Has grown taller than Ivy, but yet Lushus is not as densely filled with bud as Ivy is. She is a great healthy green with larger fan leaves and bud growing in and around the fan leaves as I trim them.

BS#6 - Three to four weeks in. Just started to show some white little hairs at the top. Working on third set of large fan leaves with a good lime colored green. Will probably name next week if all is still well.

BS#5 & 7 - Three to four weeks in. Working on their third set of large fan leaves. Good green at the top, but a bit yellow at the bottoms.

BS# 8, 9, & 11 - Struggling a bit, probably due to all the foliage currently in the unit. One is showing signs of being a male. Will probably pull next week if signs start to show through a bit more. Other two aren't looking to bad, other than still being a bit small.

Unit 2: BS#11 was compromised during the move. Also, I have not been germing since a week prior to the move. I am decided that I will wait for the hydo equipment to come in before I start any germing. This way I can convert the unit and then test it out without interrupting or wasting anything.

Thanks for stopping by,

Xan

Hey Xan. Those temps look way better than in the old place, I'm loving how close the nodes are on some of those plants too. They look like good genetics.
Just a thought on the lower case, some heat loss is achieved through the top of the case via convection, but having another unit on top will prevent that from happening. Maybe think about putting some spacers between the 2 units to allow a bit more heat to escape.
Got a sweet link for lightproofing for you as well, have a look at this:

Pure genius if you ask me.

Hello everyone and welcome back v12 :)

I just got enough time for a quick update today. The little ladies, Ivy and Lushus, are doing well. They are probably up for a feeding tonight, so I might get some pics for a full update. As for the young ones, they are 3 and 4 weeks in and are starting to show their sex. I had to pull one male but it seems as the other five will be female with three out of those five are showing hairs.

CT I believe your right, I am still experiencing some yellowing and dried up leaves. Any suggestions on getting some more N in their diet? At first I thought it was the fungi flies and/or the heat of the last apartment. However, I see hardly any flies in the soil -if I see any- and the heat has not been over 87F in at least two weeks now.

v12, glad to have you back and hope all is well in your neck of the woods. I have been testing my second unit because I was going to light proof it and finish mylaring it. Anyways I tried a few different airflow schematics but the one I had originally started off with tested out as the best (figured it couldn't hurt to try). So anyways, the 1st Unit (bottom one) was reading 84F-86F meanwhile the 2nd Unit (top one) was reading 86-88F. So I think you are right, and I am going to start thinking of ways to get a spacer in between them. I figure till I get some 'chunks' of wood that I can use text books. Although, the top unit was a little high it is nothing that I can not work with. Allowing for a spacer and I just got a large oscillating fan to blow directly on them and around the room might bring the temp down a few degrees. As for the lightproofing, that is an amazing idea. Do you know what those little 'L's are called?

Thanks Xan, things are starting to look up.
2 or 3 metal coins at each corner should make a difference. The metal will help to conduct the heat away and the gap will allow air in to cool things down.
I got some of that angle stuff from my local home improvement store. They sell wooden dowelling in long strips and in the same display they have 12x12mm angle in wood, metal and plastic. I got the plastic and some matt black paint, it works well.
