DWC grow questions

Alright, I'm starting my first hydro grow and I've decided to try and rig up a DWC system. I've heard they're pretty easy so I decided to give it a try, but I've got a few questions.
I've got a 18 gal tote for the res, and I plan on growing 4 plants in it.
First thing I want to know, is if it's likely that the roots will grow together. I've read a lot about how when growing in a dwc the roots tangle, and if you've got males to pull the roots stay and could grow root rot, or just damage the other roots. Is there a way to prevent them from growing together, like dividers or something?
Second, since it's unlikely that I'll be able to buy anything off the interweb and due to the sad lack of hydro stores in my area, I'll have to find an alternative to hydroton. Pretty much something I can get at Ace hardware. Or could I just use aquarium gravel, or marbles?
Also due to the lack of hydro stores around, I wasn't able to find any hydro specific nutrients, so I got some Jacks Classic stuff. I'm still hazy on how to mix up a complete hydro solution, but I've heard it involves mixing it with Peroxide and Epsom salts. If anyone knows for sure, and can give measurements, it'd be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, mates.

At the moment, I don't have enough money for all the pumps needed, and the tote fits easier in my closet than the 5 gals. If i get enough cash and space, I may switch to buckets next time if I don't like the tote.

Most hydroponic nutrients have all you need to grow plants. You can also add h202 with this, if using inorganic nutrients, to help with root rot/root health. Take a look at the Canna Nutrients and whatever you do, start of super light and ease up on the ppm VERY gradually.

Cool. So how much h2o2 would I add, let's say per gallon? And could I use aquarium stones in place of hydroton?

Depends on the strength of the h202.

If its the 3% kind you can get at the drug store, then around 20-30 ml/gallon.

only add h202 if you are NOT using CANNA nutrients.......i repeat with canna DO NOT add h202....also if you use the 18 gallon tote make sure you space out your holes...try and put the holes as far out in the corners as possible and use an air pump...u wont need any h202....check mine out

If you are not using the Rhizotonic you should be okay. While those are organic, the Aqua Vega A & B are not organic, so there shouldn't be a problem.

I know that Al B Fuct uses h2o2 for every res change and he uses the Canna Nutes.

h2o2 should definitely NOT be used with any organic nutrients.

With DWC your ideally cloning from females so you don't have any worries about males.
I was just thinking about it, and Im looking around for huge 55gallon (or even 30gal.) aquariums to hold 5 plants each. Paint them black so light cant penitrat, and little bit of custom work.
