DWC & Peroxide ? If you Know whats up come post info! If you dont know, shut up =)

I know Ed Rosenthal Knows his shit, so please don't post some dumb shit about how "using peroxide is stupid".

ok so from reading this article that I posted below I'm thinking I should Always use peroxide in any form of hydroponics, especially deep water cultivation, Ed states "if a 3% solution is used use three ounces per gallon of water," BUT he also says "there are many ways to add hydrogen peroxide to the water. A measured amount every three days is the crudest method, but still effectively enriches the water. A smaller measured amount daily would even out the peaks and valleys of oxygen in the water. So if i want to do it daily how much would i use?!?!?! lets say in a 5gallon DWC so 15 ounces of peroxide would be what ed calls for.. but is that every three days?
Im confused.. im asking help from some veterans on this one! thanks guys

Pondering peroxide

How much hydrogen peroxide should be used?
When and how much hydrogen peroxide should I use in my hydroponic solution?
Stiggy,
Internet

Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful oxidizer that can be used to destroy fungi, molds, bacteria and other infectious agents as well as some pollutants. Adding it to your water helps plants by destroying infectious agents and by adding oxygen to the roots' environment.

Hydrogen peroxide is an essential ingredient in maintaining a clean growing room. It replaces chlorine bleach, which is antiseptic but harmful to breathe. When added to reservoirs, hydrogen peroxide slows the growth of algae and other water organisms so that trays and utensils need to be cleaned less frequently. Soil and water borne diseases such as pythium and other stem and root rots occur at much lower rates in hydrogen peroxide-enriched water. Hydrogen peroxide works because of the oxidative reaction, so micro-organisms are unlikely to develop a tolerance.

There are many ways to add hydrogen peroxide to the water. A measured amount every three days is the crudest method, but still effectively enriches the water. A smaller measured amount daily would even out the peaks and valleys of oxygen in the water. Another method is to use a drip similar to an IV bag, which continuously adds a regulated amount. The most sophisticated method is a probe which measures the oxygen content of the water as an indirect means of measuring the hydrogen peroxide, and adds an appropriate amount as needed.

When used properly, hydrogen peroxide can keep infections in the garden to a minimum and stimulate root growth by increasing the oxygen content of the water. Hydrogen peroxide degrades into free oxygen and water over a three-day period. Some of the oxygen dissolves in the reservoir water and is used by the roots.

Different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide solution are available. It is sold diluted to 3% in drug stores. Some indoor garden shops sell 10% grade and 35% grade is sold in a few health food stores and over the Internet. The 3% hydrogen peroxide solution can be used topically to sterilize cuts and infections. Hydrogen peroxide solution at 10% burns skin. 35% hydrogen peroxide solution acts much like a concentrated acid and is handled as a hazardous, corrosive liquid.

The 10% hydrogen peroxide solution is sometimes used at rates as low as one ounce per 10 gallons water; however, enrichment using an ounce per gallon is more effective for disease control. When 35% hydrogen peroxide solution is used, it can be added at the rate of three ounces per 10 gallons of water. If a 3% solution is used, use three ounces per gallon of water.

If you are using a 5 gallon bucket, then 1 ounce/gallon every 3 days would be 5 ounces every three days.

That is the equivalent of 1.66 (one and two thirds) ounces per day.

Thanks for posting that article. It's just what I was looking for.

I hope you know that you can't use H202 if you are using organic nutrients... The H202 will kill of all the beneficial bacteria as well as the bad stuff that you want to kill. If you are using organic nutes and need a way to kill off the bad stuff while keeping the good atuff check out hygrozyme. http://www.hygrozyme.net/ Check out the link if you're interested, it is basically an organic H202 alternative. Good luck

any ideas why my plant looks like its going to die from adding h2o2..

my plant looks like a plant thats been in soil that hasnt been watered for way to long.. an hour ago it looked incredible
fuckin eh I guess ill be stayin away from h202..

I'm not really sure bro what is the pH and water temps like? Is your rez light proof?
i switched my plant over to 6.0 distilled water.. shes lookin much better now..probably leave here there for awhile then switch over to half nutes...

CORRECT DOSE FOR H2O2 is 1 TEASPOON per Gallon....

I'm going to play it safe though and keep my h2o2 at half strength as a preventive measure .. and If i ever have any problems I can bump it up to the full dose
I shall be using .5 teaspoon per gall every 4thday from now on ...

thanks for the help brother

He seems to promote it more as a preventative, or aid, instead of a cure.
Anf as I researched the subject I learned that peroxide IS definitely better as a prevetative, than a cure. Like it really slows down algae growth, but it is not 100% effective at removing or killing it all.

I would also add it is NOT to be mixed with organic nutes, that is destructive and like pissing in the wind.

H202 is great stuff. I will advise against the 3 % home stuff though as it is "dirty" and not acurate. You should use something like Grotek Super H202 35% at a rate of 3-5 drops per gallon. I use it in every aero or hydro grow I do for last 5 years. It adss great oxygen to the water. Do not get it on your skin as it burns real easy. Those amounts sound massive for even 3% h202 sounds like your shocking your roots with it.Keep water temps around 65-68 degrees F and ph between 5.5-5.8. If you use soil then dont use H202 as it will not help actually may hurt.

I have DWC buckets right now
