Early sexing for scrog grow

I have nine WW from seeds that I need identify in within the next month or so. I have read about putting a black bag over a branch for 12 hours a day until sex shows and just triggering the entire plant and revegging.
I need to hear from people that have tried either method and hear opinions (not rants) and experiences for both methods.
I apreciate any help I can get. I know that there are some very experienced growers that can help me out.

Thanks!
:peace:

what is the hurry? re-setting them back into veg will set you back a few weeks and also be pretty stressfull to the the plant i would imagine.

I need to get them vegging when I harvest my other trees. And I agree one hundred percent about the stressing. But If I get a male in my ScrOG, then its a whole new headache trying to get him out once hes tangled.

That's why I was asking for experiences from people that have done this before. My only other idea is that I clone them all, number them and then SOG them when they are ready to meet the boys and girls. Then toss out the male clones and regroup to ScrOG the WW next time.
I was just hoping for an easy answer!! LOL!

How do I sex using a paper bag?

Get a small paper bag or something similar that is lightproof (a paper bag will not be suitable for strong H.I.D lighting), and a plastic coated twist tie.

Select a plant that you would like to sex and choose a growing tip. Take the paper bag, place it over the top of the selected tip and seal with the twisty tie. Then, to simulate the flowering phase, simply remove the bag after the 12hr dark period, and replace when the 12hr day cycle ends.

After 7-14 days, the growth-tip you covered should start showing signs of its sex.

note:
Caution should be taken when closing the bag too tightly around the branch.
A small opening should be left open to allow air exchange and prevent heat buildup. Black materials tend to heat up and the branch may suffer from excess heat, causing wilting.

"There is plenty of air inside the paper baggage because it would hold its own blown up shape...sorta balloned over the branch tip."

This is for people that dont have room for clones or just want to know the sex of there plant without taking and rooting early cuttings.

Things you need:
1 can of black spray piant
1 box of plastic ziplock baggie (sandwich bag size)

Take the plastic baggie and spraypaint the outside of the baggie, then find one of the lower branches that is furthest from the light (this will insure that light reflection on the black paint isnt too intence for heat buildup)and just simply slip the baggie over the branch for 12 hours of darkness.

If you have painted the whole baggie, then no light will get through to the branch when the lights are on. You will see sex on that one branch in 7 to 10 days in most cases.

I have done this many times on inside plants.

If I had 30 days, I would cut clones right away. Get them to root (about 10-20 days) and flower them. They will show sex in less than 10 days anyway. That's the most fool proof method and doesn't stress the original plants.

I apreciate both comments.... I think I will try the baggie this time while I am vegging them so as to not set myself back too much time. I don't want my success depending on my inexperienced ability to clone at this point. If I can just establish a cycle with a few mothers I'll be laughing.. until then 'I be learnin''

Thanks Luda and Laserbrn. Have a great day!

Why not try both? You will more than likely want the clones when you're done and if you fail you will at least have your first failure under your belt. I never pass up an opportunity to try something for the first time when it's less critical.

well, thats a good point too. Maybe I should give cloning some practice while I have these little ones kicking around. I've got two more weeks to make the plan and then a whole lotta work to execute it. I guesss it wouldn't be any more effort to try both ways at the same time and figure out which one worked better in my situation.

Thanks again!
