Early signs of deficiency?

Hello Growers,

I am on my second grow now and it’s still in a continuing learning process to get things right. I am in a bit panic mode because I cannot determine what is wrong with my two plants. I believe it’s a deficiency but cannot pinpoint what it is and hoping to receive some guidance on what to do?? I planted seedlings with rapid rooter on 3/28 moved to soil on 4/2 (about 3 weeks now) counting from planting in soil(Fox Farm). Just been giving it Ph’d water (5.8-6) to date.

I think I should start giving it nutrients next week (4/30) to start veg, thoughts?

Your pH is too low, plant can't absorb nutrients properly, pH your water to 6.5, expect rapid improvement

I plan on growing in 7 gallon pots but I'm afraid if i do this too early it will stun the growth of the plant. So if I transplant to 3 gallon pots as you suggested. How long do i keep it in the 3 gallon pots before transplanting to the 7 gallon pots?

i would actually go to a 1 or 2 gallon, and then to the bigger container, then it takes less time for it to adequately fill out the pot and be ready for up potting once again. Not only that, but you also instinctively noticed that too large a container will stunt plant growth because it holds far too much moisture than the roots are capable of transpiring out of the container which leads to lower O2 levels around the roots as it gets used up, and will create difficulty for roots breathing (respiration).

Agree with above poster, the solo is exhausted of of nutrients. it's not necessarily lock out but just a lack of buffer; FF soil contains dolomite lime buffers which will react with your acidic waterings and create a proper pH in the soil. but because the container is so small right now and plant growth has peaked for the size, all the lime has been dissolved, and you've lost your buffer, and new soil will introduce more buffer to the container. I do agree though, get the watering between 6.0 and 6.5, and you will more slowly dissolve that buffer (less acidity means less dissolving). when you up pot, you can continue on your water only regiment for a couple weeks (FF soils have nutrients in the adequate for plant growth). but after a couple weeks you'll want to start introducing nutrients to the watering regiment.

it will take a little time for the plant to adjust to the new container and spread its roots, so if you continue to see continued signs of stress don't panic, just give it a little time and it will all work out when roots start to spread into the new medium.
