Eastvale plans to rush the approval of a planned rental ordinance that officials hope will curtail an increasing number of marijuana grow houses in residential neighborhoods.
..Many of the houses were rented to criminals by unsuspecting landlords who do not keep tabs on their property or live locally, City Manager Carol Jacobs said in an interview.
..Officials hope to have rules in place in 60 days.
The recent upsurge in grow house activity has driven the desire to see something coming to fruition sooner rather than later, Nissen said.
The ordinance would require homeowners who rent out their property to register with the city and provide periodic confirmation that they have inspected it. The Fire Department and code enforcement would also be allowed to inspect the property, with sufficient notice, if there is a complaint.
There are other strategies as well.
