Ebb & Gro System Questions:Hydroton?

I currently have a 12 site Ebb & Gro system. I normally use Hydroton, rockwhool, and plastic bucket to hold everything. I don't like hydroton and I hear there are different methods. Anyone have any other method / medians you use to replace the hydration?

WHat's your problem with hydroton? just curious.

I use "rock that dont roll"... hydroten works but causes cancer i heard thats why illegal to sell in some states.

Its all the same when it comes to medium. Unless using anything absorbant like rockwool or cotton or spungy like... the rocks and hydroten dont really hold water which is way better IMO.

when using medium that holds water its hard to know when they dry out and when to water which prett much goes against all the hydro purposes of self watering on a timer.

i water every 3.5hrs when lights on an never had an issue.

Why do you need a media? Net pots with collars cost less with no cleaning or spilling.
