Ebb n Flow close call....new to hydro

Hello all,

I had a scary moment yesterday after refilling my nutrients for the first time. I just recently made the switch into hydro when a friend gave me and ebb n flow 12 pott system (after getting his "montster" system). I am no stranger to the concepts of hydroponics but have been a very "traditional" gardener.

Everything has been grand for the first week or two of using the system. No leaks, no problems, everything looking healthy and wonderful (I started with about a 1/4 tank of a 55gallon drum that had been being used already). I just recently filled the tank near full as it was time to add some more nutes to the tank, and to my surprise re-entered the room to about 5 gallons of water dispersed around my room with the controller bucket being the main source of overflow (the last bucket was also noticeably overflowing.

I am pretty sure that it is just the pressure the extra was was pushing water up the fill hose. Only thing that I can see is that the drain hose has a 90 degree elbow with a small hole in it, is that supposed to be on the fill tubing to escape siphoning issues?

the 90 is right if it is on the drain tube but the piece of tube with the hole goes on the fill tube the hole in the tube needs to be inside the rez to stop siphoning like you said
