Greetings. I just purchased a 4" Muffin fan. It has a male receptacle with two prongs built into the side. It came with a femal connection, (with 2 wire leads), which attaches to the male receptacle on the fan.

I'm aware that most muffin fans should be wired using a 12V adapter but I'm not sure this one should be, here's why.

The fan is AC120V, 60Hz and 16W. With it being 120V I'm not sure a 12V adapter is required....shouldn't it just wire to a regular plug and then into a wall outlet? Or do I still need an adapter?

Thanks for all the help. I hope I posted this in the correct forum.

Happy growing!

Peace.

If it says 120v no adapter is needed. I have a similar (4" muffin) purchased from Radio Shack and it is 120v. Never make splices (joining wires together using wirenuts) unless it is in a junction box. What's the muffin fan for? Those things don't move a whole lot of air. Is it attached to the side of a reflector with a HID lamp?

Thank you Gohydro. Your answer is just what I thought. The fan is for my cloning cabinet where I use CFL's.

Thanks again,
Peace

If you're not using it to ventilate the light itself and just want a little air moving I'd opt for one of those cheap ocillating fans from Walmart. I think they're less than 10 bucks and no wiring is necessary.

Good Luck!

Probably can get away with splicing outside of a box but why do it when a plastic box is less than 2 bucks?

Fire? Dude.. I really can't stress enough how much electrocution really really REALLY fucking hurts, not to mention there's a high risk of dying. Junction box. Its worth the effort and they even come with blue-points (called connectors in some countries).
