Electronic ballast question

Hi all,

got this Osram PTI 2x70W electronic ballast. As you can see, it needs 2x70W bulbs.

My question is: if I would like to use it with only one, can I do it, without any damage of the bulb (shorter lifespan)? Or it only works with two? If it is working with one, what will be the watt usage, 1x70W or 2x70W?

It's like a florescent ballast, you can plug only one bulb in if you want looking here:

http://www.osram.com/osram_com/Professionals/ECG/ECGs_for_HID/PTi_I/index.html

It says you can do 1 or 2 bulb installations.

You mean this: "Types for 35 W and 70 W available in 1-lamp or 2-lamp version (2-lamp versions significantly reduce installation effort)" ?

I'm afraid it talks about that the PTI 220-240 i has 1x70W and 2x70W versions, not about the 2x70W version can be installed with 1 or 2 bulbs...

Correct me, if I'm wrong.

I might be wrong...i haven't done enough research on ballast design, but I have been thinking about tinkering around building some :D
