I ran through all my South Florida OG x Runtz beans that I got from someone in a seed trade a while back and we reversed the Red Pop and germinated 5 Gatorz (SFOG x Runtz) moms. I hunted through about 200 of the beans to find something that leans super Red Pop heavy and named that Pink Gatorz

First 5 pics are the Original Gatorz from the last couple weeks of flower though to finished flower

First Pink Gatorz pic is of the original pheno plant #38 from seed and the progress through dialing it in and harvested/finished flower

When we took the flower up to Mike at the Cannabis Cup in 2020 he didn't believe us when we told him that we had been holding the flower in cold storage for 6 months. He said he had run thousands of beans and the major issue he came across was that the terpenes responsible for the pronounced strawberry profile were extremely susceptible to rapid degradation after harvest (no matter how strong the terps were at harvest and how precise he was controlling the dry, trim and storage environmental parameters). He said every single plant he thought was "the one" ended up falling flat soon after harvest.

So, if you grew it from a cut that you could trace back to Don, I'm extremely surprised about your results. If you grew from seed, then you would have found yourself in all our favorite situation of playing that fun ol' genetic lottery (even though I know for an absolute fact that Mike used Don's Red Pop cut for all his subsequent breeding projects)

I keep watching everyone ruin there buds with 58-62% humidity packs which will brown your weed up and make it smell like nothing in a couple of weeks a lot of times. 48% packs work good though. Nothing beats opening jars every day for months with 50% humidity or lower in the room though. After a few weeks I like to throw it in a freezer for a week then remove it and keep it normal. When I was a kid I noticed weed in my mason jars left in the trunk travelling from Florida to Minnesota in the winter smell crazy after few days...it was definitely the cold and lower humidity.

I call total bs on just certain phenos keeping the smell...if it keeps it at all it's you who fucked up curing if it goes away. 25 years of growing thousands upon thousands of different phenos and hundreds of strain from all over the world. No one will convince me otherwise. I am will be crossing red pop to cherry punch crossed to an extremely cherry strain coming up. I will let everyone know how the Red Pop s1's go. I bet the majority have the terpenes and keep them as well =) Everyone wants something special /shrug

Something I don't understand is why in the 90s and early 2000s did exotic weed always seem super FRESH and it was only in ziplock bags for weeks to months and wouldn't lose any smell or potency

So why did humidity packs not really become a thing until 2017 lol?

Before then it seemed weed stayed fresh, compared to now where it's bad within a week if not stored correctly

I had just recently started checking to see if different brands mattered and testing different brands of those breathable you supposedly don't need to burp bags... I don't get it...how can someone in this profession green light this shit without testing themselves? I see people recommend the bags and the packs all the time...like, no, you fuck your own weed up trying to cut corners. Lower humidity and some time in 40 below weather is a huge noticeable difference. You don't even need the cold...it definitely improves though.

Think about it...Fresh frozen extracts are fire...the best...you can mimic that a little bit. Someone discovered fresh frozen with same logic and general experience a lot of us find over the years...that stupid eureka moment that you can't believe you couldn't figure out for so long. The whole wet weed bullshit is amateurs not knowing wtf they are doing and not having the hands on experience that time bring.

I will never forget opening the mason jars of Sweet Tooth up North. The fucking grapefruit/candy blueberry smell just incredible after a proper temp and humidity cure...It was night and day. I had carried a quarter in my jacket the day before and had to buy a new jacket...even though it was in a plastic container you could smell it horribly on my jacket lol. It got me in trouble with a girlfriends parents big time back then...Like what weed? And it was true there was no fuckin weed, lol. Something I had grown and cured many times so I knew, or thought I knew how good/strong it could smell.
