Fan options

I downgrading from a 600 watt hps to a 400 watt hps for temp reasons. Like my 600 watt, its also aircooled. However, the fan for the 600 watter is WAY too loud. It was 180cfm centrifugal fan. So I'm curious what the best type of fan or ventilation system would be for the area. I need incoming air and a fan to vent out the air-cooled hood. what do you think?

no one has any suggestions?

4 inch inline fan with a small desk fan pulls fresh air in exausts old air out not to loud and just throw on a carbon filter and its perfect. or do what i did and attach ducting to an ac unit feed the ducting on the bottom of the grow room still keep ur negative hole on the bottom of the grow box above the ac ducting so ur inline fan still pulls air in. Buy a dual timer and set the ac unit and inline fan on 15 min intervuls?? So that when ones on the others off maintaining cool air temps and good air flow. And when my 400w was off i would just run the inline fan, but i didnt have an air cooled reflector and had a reflector ballast combo and heat was a bigger issue for me, but worked out perfect and was low on the noise level.

I use a 600w inside a cab with an air cooled light but I found w/600w I had to add an inline exhaust fan to the system not real quiet though.... if u want quiet I think u need to use a medium price bathroom exhaust fan u have to compare their noise ratings I think they measure it in what they call scones

mmm....noise is usually measured in dB ?

Scones sound like a cool unit of measurement. Especially warm scones with jam and weed butter.

Those are very quiet! But you cant use a carbon filter with them. they will burn out. I use one I got at home depot and its pretty quiet. go there and they are all on display you can puch a button and turn them on to hear how loud they are.

i say keep the same fan and buy a speedster fan control and slow it down till you get to your desired temp. i have an aircooled 400w and keep it 1 to 2 inches from canopy and its 75 degrees in there

Was at walmart for way to long tonight looking and thinking about various improvements. Ended up with a holmes 4 inch mini desk fan ($6) to play with. High speed, no specs on box, good out put almost too strong for seedings at a 2ft distance. My thought, build a small box to fit tightly around fan, with an 4in dryer hose fitting on one or both sides of the box connected to exhaust tubing (essentially making an inline fan. Connected to 400w bulb fixture then vented outside for cooling. They also had a 10in vortex fan for $12 that I may play with later. Anyone try anything like this?
