Father still suffering from constant pain

I’ve posted about this before long ago.

My father fell off a roof 20 years ago and has suffered from constant pain management issues. He shattered both legs and broke his back. His legs are all pins, plates and screws.

He was addicted to opiates for many years, but has been off them for a few years.

He has been all over the place the last few years. Recently he had gained a lot of weight and suffers from constant pain.
In the past I’ve tried to talk him into stopping drinking soda and eating a really bad diet. Ice creams, candy and smoking tobacco.

He always says he has no interest in that as they are the only things that make him feel good.

Recently he has started drinking, which he hasn’t as long as I know him and he’s suffering even more.

I have no idea what to do or say. In the past he’s been suicidal and would fail a suicide assessment as in past he’s described his plan to me and has the ability to carry it out. (He hasn’t currently) I’m just worried he might go down that path again.

I just need some opinions on what to do, say to him. I would like to see if he would want to try cannabis which is legal here in NY, however there is no legal way to obtain currently.

Seek professional help
Not a weed site

It doesn't cure everything no matter how bad you want it too

Sorry

So sorry, can really empathize......chronic pain is quite the challenge , no cure but opiates that will end up taking you down(been there)......doesn't leave many options......it turns into a vicious mental affliction, trying to live like that. So, off to the shrinks and therapist the doctors send you , of course they can't treat or cure your physical pain. They certainly can help with anxiety and depression....so f'ing important. That aspect of chronic pain is a nightmare.

Hi Balzac

I've been making canna coconut oil for the past two years for family members, who user it for pain and sleep to great success.

I make it using a Magical butter machine and 60 grams of decarboxylated bud and 950 ml of coco oil.

Your dad can take it as needed through the day and at night for sleep.

Good luck!

As much as you want to help him, you can't force someone to change. Obviously, he needs to lose weight, eat better, and stop smoking/drinking. Doing those things would greatly improve his quality of life. But you can't change people, change has to come from within, there is literally nothing else you can do once you've voiced your concerns and ideas to your pops. If you have other family there who want to help, then hold an intervention. Sometimes peer pressure can work, other times you just end up alienating the person. Whatever you do, don't let his illness drag you down with him. Good luck bud, a lot of us have been there (or are there right now.)

Small details anyways… Balzac, the only thing that truly helps me pain wise is eating edibles. Smoking or vaping dosent do it well for me anymore. I wish you the best, my father was an alcoholic, as was I. It took a lot of help to get better. seek out supports for him and cut ties if it gets too painful to be around him. I wish you both the best.

my father used to work in the medical trade and wont take medication when he should, its so frustrating. he should go back on the pills for a while then take a rest from them, then take them again and then stop b4 the addiction kicks in, or at least take as low a dose as he can.
yeah edibles are the best way to go, but as allready stated, you should see the dr, as cannabis isnt for everyone
