A common male delusion but if you are considering safety, the facts are just the opposite. Through most of their lifetime of driving, male drivers are 2-3 times more likely to be involved in a serious accident. Even on a per mile basis (men drive more miles than women on the average) , male are about 66% more likely to die in a fatal accident.

"From Figure 1. we can see that in the age category 20-29 years the fatality rate for males (including drivers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, etc.) was 535% greater than that of females. The difference between the sexes declined sharply with age – the difference between men and women in their sixties and older being insignificant"
Men are probably better at car handling skills than women. They tend to make better race car drivers, but driving safely is a different matter.
