FERO 336x3W and more, perpetual 12-12

Hello everyone,


I have been experimenting with leds for quite some time, I got all kinds of small units from various makers. (FERO,HSS,Blackstar and Diamond series) I had in my room 2 x 400w hids and leds for supplemental light. I just took the 2 HIDs out of the room and will be replacing them with a FERO FeroMax 336x3w LED http://www.feroledlighting.com/336x3w-led/.


Its just starting and things might change, but for now, we got FERO FeroMax 336x3W(draws 540w) (that one is there to stay!!), my previous FERO 180 (draws about 135w),the diamond series 100W and the HSS 90W. So about 800W LEDs, I am using about 300watts less than before. The room is 4x5 and I usually have about 5-6 plants going, just enough pot for a chronic like me.


I grow in supersoil, I got good results with my first recipe(see pictures of my freshly harvested bud), now I changed a few ingredients, I think I improved it a bit. Time will tell.



To start, I got 2 Chemdog (10gallons containers) for sure and 3 k-train (will go in nursery pots, I believe they are 7gallons). Coming up is 1 Acapulco gold and 1 Jack the Ripper(only got the 1 seed so hopefully it's a female!!) I will get a few Sativas going shortly as soon as I get the seeds.

One plant in the room is about 2 weeks to harvest while the revegged one might be another month, I might move the revegged one elsewhere so we have a fresh start with the lights.

About the light: Just got the light in the mail yesterday(was shipped within 4 days!), the light is very well built (by far the best that I have, no mess of glue inside the light, nothing weird, just a solid clean light), fairly heavy (need some good hooks!!), and bright as fuck...also high-low intensity button that I will never use .

Nice set up! Have you used a killawatt to check out the actual draw? I don't see it listed on their website. oops i see further down on the page. sorry

no I didnt use a killawatt, it's sold as a 540W actual draw.

But I still wanted to know more so I emailed Brent at Fero.

We actually used to work with that company but we had so many problem with them. They gave us such a big head ache. We have switched to a new supplier. But yes by all means people can go there to get lights. Plus buddy did not include the price for shipping and duty into the mix..... Plus Someone would have to know what spectrums they would want. I also think that manufacture uses one less LED in each cluster then the FeroMax units. I would have to double check. I think they use one led in each cluster as an indicator light.

Little update, here is a picture of what the room looks like at the moment:



The 2 Chemdogs are doing their thing, looking good.



A week behind are the 2 K-Train (I had another K-train but it died, it was too small when I transplanted it, it was in the nursery 7gallons container, it's been replaced by either Chemdog or K-Train. We also have an Acapulco gold and a Jack the Ripper trying to make it in life)



That is about it for the new comers, here is a few shots of them ladies maturing quite well and getting really frosty.

The girl in the corner (dunno the strain, Kenny's mix from vancouver seed bank) is finishing up really nicely under the FERO, Sorry the picture arent that great but you can see she is getting frosssssssssty, another 4-5 days I figured. You can also see on the second picture in the brown container, the K-train is coming along pretty good.





The short and bushy in the laundry basket is a revegged conKushion, it's doing really considering it was mostly under 135watts of LEDs up until 10 days ago.



Here is what I believe to be one of the chemdog ( I am not home at the moment ) vegging really nicely under the FERO, it looks very healthy so far.



So yeah the plants are finishing up very nicely under my new FERO, and the new comers are looking really good as well, I cannot wait to see how well the 336x3w will do! Stay tuned!

Thats a lot of watts! 40 watts per square foot.

it's best to have more watts per square foot when going 12/12 from seeds ( I have not experienced problems yet with too much light on seedling with leds as long as they are kept at a fair distance) , when they start to stretch between veg and flower it's when you can't fuck up and it's when having a lot of light will make all the difference...actually you can't fuck up at all when going 12/12 from seeds, but it's really easy the way I do it with my supersoil, so far...

From my experience, if you fuckup early on and the plant is unhealthy/small when it starts to bud, it's all over, the plant won't yield much. (I did have a 36grams bud on a very short Chemo but the plant was very healthy from the start, just short and grew into one big bud and some more)

It will take another 2 weeks for the Chemdogs to start stretching then budding, the K-train and the others a bit behind.

Has anyone heard anything about those new lens? which other company other than FERO are using them? I just realised there was another spec sheet on their website. http://www.feroledlighting.com/storage/X2-SP113D.jpg The way I see it, it claims that you get 25% improved efficiency with those lens.

I don't have any specific data on hand to show you but I've always heard the lenses block a considerable amount of light. They may be great for wide dispersion around 120 degrees, but for narrow cast patterns supposedly a splash guard is more efficient. But that's just what I've heard so who knows.

** Like puff stated, even if there is some light loss, if more light is reaching the plants who cares - I'd just make sure they use the higher quality lenses as there can be a big difference between lens quality.

Hydro grow led "penetrators" also use the x-lenses and make the same claim. My thoughts on lenses are that even though you lose efficiency, the increased intensity as a trade off makes up for it.

Hydro grow led "penetrators" also use the x-lenses and make the same claim. My thoughts on lenses are that even though you lose efficiency, the increased intensity as a trade off makes up for it.

If I may butt in for a moment, this is how it was explained to me.

The idea behind a lensing systems kinda goes like this for growers; Panels have a primary area of coverage where plants growth is excellent. They also have an area outside of the primary coverage where the plant will live but not flourish. What you're doing with something like the X-lens is trying to get that secondary coverage back into the area of primary coverage by doing a combination of things. If done right the amount of energy you lose going through a medium or bouncing off a mirror is made up for by the amount of secondary coverage that has been returned to the area of primary coverage. Anything past that, i.e. the optics used, beam angles, lens material, whatever, is way beyond me. The LED flashlight guys seem to know this shit pretty well. To me lenses are for people who want to grow trees with their LEDs by using the increase in penetration and tighter beam shape and are definitely part of growing with LED's future IMHO.

And lots of the Chinese panel makers are using them now, but God knows how good the ones they are using really are !

I chopped the last HID girl (the last couple weeks were strictly under FERO) , looks pretty frosty and pretty tasty. The rest of it is coming along nicely, I wish I would have started more seeds though because I killed a bunch along the way from being away from home and not being around to give em the perfect conditions. The Chemdogs are on schedule for now, growing strong and both started to flower. I ll get a few sativas in the mix shortly.

Lets make this journal more fun, lets make it greener!!...I was using a cabinet last year when I first started to experiment with LEDs, I am now using it to dry buds and so I bought a 3x3 tent... so as of September, I will never have to buy buds from anyone. In this tent, I will most likely be using the FERO adjustable along with a Kessil 350 Magenta over about 6 plants in 7 gallons smart pot in supersoil. I will grow mostly Sativas from different breeders (single seed marijuana canada) Eldorado; Red Dragon; Berry Bomb; Lemon Skunk; Super Lemon Haze; White Castle; Blackberry ... I fucked up when germinating so I don't know which one is which, ... so that will be a fun game in about 2 months to figure that out.





Things are coming along nicely in the main room,

the biggest Chemdog is showing some weird growth, the worst set of growth was might have been caused by being under a big fan leaf and then sweating ... or I got too much hot soil in that container, because the rest looks really good. The rest of that Chemdog is looking really good just those 2 sets of branches so I am not going to worry.
