Few dwc questions

I have my dwc bucket set up I have a 10inch net pot and a 6 inch rockwool cube with the round insert, and clay pellets around the cube, I have 3 air stones in the bottom so there's a good amount of bubbles. I'm using a 150watt hps which is the perfect size for my closet space. I'm going to be doing a mainline single plant grow it's a fem crown royale. The seed is already germed tmro it will be ready for the rockwool. My only questions are ...
1) do I fill the water up 1/2 way threw the net pot because I'm starting from a seed I don't want it to dry out.
2) if I only fill it to the bottom inch of the net pot will the rockwool stay damp enough for the seed?
3)once the roots grow and are down into the water in the bucket do I drop the water level?IMAG1239.jpg IMAG1241.jpg

Just what my hydro supplier told me to use I've seen other people use them in grow videos so I assumed that it would be ok

You would want just enough of the rock wool touching the soup to allow it to wick it. Once roots show drop the solution just below the net basket so only roots and none of the basket or its contents are in the soup. However, I agree a big rock wool cube is a waste. Roots will take longer to show than with a smaller one.

I have to ask why you don't germinate the seed in the rock wool on a heat mat until roots show? The way you describe is done by folks but I would not risk a good seed.

And you will need to train or control this plant. DWC yields the biggest plants and that space will be packed. Consider SCROG in my opinion rather than LST.

I can put the seed in the small round plug and let it germ the rest of the way until it shows some roots. But the big cube will work it will just take longer for the roots to show? and I can raise the shelf another 2 feet when the time comes! Here's a pic of my seed atm14461551578141650930615.jpg

I use small cubes. I also use those net lids, but six inch. When you put the plug into the hydroton after some roots pop. I hand water twice a day with a 60 ml syringe and have a weak 250 ppm nutrient solution up to the bottom of the hydroton. The bubbles pop and lightly mist the hydroton keeping it damp but not soaked. Eventually the roots hit the water and you can stop top watering. The small cube needs to stay damp, you dont want it to dry out or the roots dry out too. Damp and not soaked all the time. Wet after watering is fine but let it have a dry out time without going bone dry. Usually a squirt twice a day is good. Itll take a week or so for the roots to hit water and then when theres a few in there the plant will start basically watering itself. Keep the water just to the bottom of the hydroton and check it daily to see what you need to add to bring it back up to the right level. At least thats how it worked when i was doing it back in the day. Good luck and i hope you have a ppm meter ;)

Thanks for the input I might get a second blue bucket there only 4$ each the black ones at the hydro store are 11$ so didn't figure it was worth the extra money. And this lid seems to just set on and pull off easy as shit,

I have a ppm meter I only did a 1/4 strength nite solution for the first week. And the rockwool is just in the water maybe a 1/2 inch . Also good to know I will top feed it with a syringe for the first while thanks for the input!

o ya my local hydro shop don't know anything about DWC just sell's stuff that don't work that's why i read here
This guy is actually super helpful I was gonna buy 4, 2 foot t5 lights and he talked me into the hps. Which I'm glad he did. Once summer comes around I'm going to have a big ebb and flow system in a green house but for now I'm just getting experience with hydro

Wrap duct tape around it.

Probably pots with pellets and have it flood every hour during the day and then ever 2 hours at night, possibly I'm still learning about all this hydro stuff lol I know I like the end result of it
