few questions from a newbie

hey guys, i just started growin for the first time in a little room i have in the basement..... i started from seeds.... now my plants are about 2 weeks old, i have some in earth in 6 inch pots, and some in a 8 place hydro set up.

first question, the hydro set up is like a pump that waters each rockwool block that the plants are in, inside of rapid rooters.... ive noticed that the roots are starting to come out the bottom of the rockwool.... is there something i should do? maybe get one of those rockwool slabs to put under? or are the roots ok to come out the bottom?

second question, im feeding then about half the recomended mixture of optimum hydroponix 2 part formula.... ive noticed in the past few days the leaves are starting to curl downwards a little bit, and there is still new growth, but the older leaves are curling downwards. overwatering?.... im a little unsure of the watering methods... should i set the timer so it goes on 30 min every 2 hours, or should it be more like 4-5 hours until the rockwool has a chance to dry out? i have a agrosun bulb in a 400watt hps lamp about a foot above the plants, with a fan on the plants and the light is keeping the room warm... I also have a exhaust fan taking the humidity out of the room? is that bad?

one of my plants also has little brownish gold dots all over its 2 leaves.... im not sure what it is.

they are all growing at about the same rate except some are pushing out allot bigger than others...... and the ones in earth are growing a little slower, which is only normal i assume...

so main questions are the rockwool blocks? do i need slabs for the roots to grow into? are the nutrients making my leaves curl downwards a little? or overwatering?

should i eventually start feeding the plants in soil the same nutrients as the hydro ?

it fine if the roots go thu let them! just means ur plant is getting bigger ...water less! water them when it gets dryd out.

under the rockwool is just a tray, i think if i let them just keep growing they will eventually go where there is light and i heard that is bad? any ideas on why the leaves are curling down? should i be worried? what about the little spots? I will try wattering less, and see what happens!


also is it true that a plant will grow double its height once you start the flowering?

It will grow alot during flowering...u got any pics they r way better than words!...and r is ur rock wool just siting there or r it under water?

no pics, but im going to borrow a digital camera sooon, id really like some opinions!!, so if i wanted to have a see of greeen with my plants only about 2 feet high, I should go into flowering when they are about 1 foot?

I would wait a lil bit longer than a foot but thats just me...wat strain is it?

what sort of hydro set up do you have? how long have they been in veg?

the set up is like a tray with a bin of water underneath, each plant is in its own rockwool block on the tray and there is a pump in the water that pumps into each rockwool block.... Plants are 13 days from seed.... and about max 4 inches tall and just starting their second and third sets of leaves..... btw there is not much space in between the "nodes" or seperating the groups of leaves from each other?

hmm...what are your plans for the ones in the rockwool cubes? are they sitting in a medium like hydroton? also u say you are already introducing nutes? if the plants start to react in a bad way i would definitely back off the nutes for right now and wait a week or two.

also the sea of green method I found from my own personal experiences work better with clones than seeds.

I have both kind of plants in the rockwool... they are not cubes they are actual rockwool blocks, i put the rapid rooters with germinated seeds into the blocks... there is no hydroton.... the blocks are sitting right on the bottom of the tray. I have had nutes in the water since i put the babies into the rockwool blocks, i have just been slowly increasing it.... I am still at half the recomended dosage and will wait before adding anymore

I was thinking sea of green because i have a MAX 2.5 foot height limit for my plants... what are my other options?

hmm...I never really seen a hydro grow with just rockwool blocks. But then again Im somewhat new still to growing. Only have had 5 successful grows thus far. But an option to help control the height is to implement LST(Low Stress Training). With this you may be able to help control the height.

hey there, nice to see another canadian do you think i need another rockwool slab under the blocks or should i just let the roots go around in the tray ?

hopefully ill have some pics tomomrow ! i need some opinions on the curling/leaves growing in weird directions/shapes....

Let 'em hang! Until you put them in your basin, they can hang wild. Its a good sign, and means the plant is beefing up. It is a good idea to think towards getting their final grow medium ready for when you are ready to put them into flower. If you're using a veg room and a flower room.

That sure is a small space to work with, but with the sea of green setup and training your branches, I think you'll be able to pull it off. Cant wait to see what you have to work with.

the rockwool is their final grow media, I plant to grow them in the rockwool blocks from start to finish!
