First ever grow, am I wasting good seeds?

Hi everyone. New here and looking to post my first grow as it seems too smooth so far. I got given 5x fat monkey seeds from a mate for $20, and threw one in the soil as a worst case scenario test run.

Growing a SAG fat monkey auto, in cheap potting mix with perlite, 15L pot. Have a 3x2x5 tent with a mars hydro TS 600. No ventilation or temp monitoring, but it's hot here in Australia now. Horrid humidity at an average of 85% lately. Using tap water of unknown pH (have seen 7.6-8 from council sites), and don't have any nutes. I've looked through some threads here, and I had no idea about the temp, humidity and nute monitoring, and think I may have bitten off more than I can chew.

It is at day 15 now from when it stuck its head out of soil, and I have no immediate reference for auto size. If anyone has grown a chimp glue 2/fat monkey auto, how is the size for day 14? I have tried to top it after the 3rd node, and I don't think I did it properly, as the two heads came out, but then another two smaller ones popped up overnight where I cut the stem. I have included a picture of my botched top. I have only watered it like twice in 15 days, and put about 1L in each time.

My main question is, when do plants start showing there nutrient and heat deficiencies? I figured two weeks is too early as it wouldn't be feeding much at all. Am I wasting good seeds going Into this with just a light and tent? And was topping an auto as stupid an idea as I have been told? For a size comparison that is a large 350 wide X 300 high pot.

Looks fimmed rather than topped, and that's ok, the effect will be similar. They discourage topping and auto because of recovery time. Im only on my 5th auto, I've not topped but I LST the crap out of them.
