Hi fellow stone-a-holics bongsmilie

I have finaly got set up for my first grow
Iv decided to start a grow journal and as im new to growing I am happy for you all to post on my journal with advice or just anything anyone wishes to comment on ;-)

I did start a thread in the newbie sections a few weeks ago but decided to create a new post in the journal section instead.

This is my original link:
https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/223237-my-first-grow.html

Ok so its day one for me today. Iv got my set up almost fitted and my seeds are germinating in my airing cupboard. Keep em nice and warm at about 27c - 30c wrapped in a moist small hand towel between 2 small plates.

I wanted to grow some burmese Kush but the Attitude seed bank I ordered from were out of stock so I decided to go for 10x Flying Dutchmen G Force Feminized.

All 10 are under the plate but also got some free seeds.

1x Moby Dick
1x power kush
1x blue widow

I have decided to also germinate these 3 free seeds but thought id experiment a little and have put them in a small cup with some moist bog roll in the bottom and a cling film cover with a couple of holes in it, also in my airing cupboard just to see if this wirks better for germination.

All in all I have 8x 11 liter pots to grow in so I will look to take the 8 best looking plants after Propagation and grow them to full adults.

I will be placing the seeds into a root riot tray once they have hatched and will be growing in hydroton clay pebbles with a hydroponic drip/flood system on a timer.

At the moment im not to sure what to do with the 5 left over babies once iv transplanted my 8 best looking girls into there pots. If all seeds germinate that is.

once I have them into there root riots and in the medium propagation tray I will hit them with the 250w MH light I have on an 18 hour on and 4 hours off cycle. I dont currently have a lower light source to use in my grow tent but I think this will be ok.

Once they are out from under the dome and in there pots I will then change to a 400w MH for veg and then a 600w HPS for flowering.

This is what I have for my set up:

A complete Hydroponics growing kit to raise and flower eight large sized plants in a Wilma 8 Pot System with Hydroton Clay Pebbles and Canna Aqua Nutrients. This kit has everything you will need to propagate, grow and flower with ease.
DR120 600w Hydro Grow Kit includes:

  • Secret Jardin DR120 Tent.
  • Maxibright 600w IPac Ballast.
  • Euro Reflector.
  • Powerplant 600w HPS Lamp.
  • Powerplant 400w MH Lamp. (not included in the kit)
  • Powerplant 250w MH lamp. (not included in the kit)
  • Powerstar 1 way 1kw Light Contactor.
  • 2 x Grasslin 15 minute Timer.
  • Eazi Roll - light hangers.
  • 5" Prima Klima Carbon Filter - 18 month.
  • 5" Systemair HVK Fan/Cable/Plug.
  • 5" Fast Clamp.
  • 5" Jubilee Clip.
  • 5" Aluminium Duct x 5 metre.
  • 6" Clip on Fan.
  • Wilma 8 Pot System.
  • Root Riots - tray 24.
  • Medium Propagator.
  • Scalpel.
  • PH Test Kit.
  • PH Down 1 litre.
  • 5ml Pipette.
  • 10ml Syringe.
  • Thermometer & Humidity Dial.
  • Softy Scissors.
  • Canna Rhizotonic 250ml.
  • Canna Aqua Vega A+B 1 litre.
  • Canna Aqua Flores A+B 1 litre.
  • Canna PK 13/14 1 litre.
  • 2 x Hydroton Clay Pebbles 50 litre.
All in all this kit cost me a smal fourtune! £700 in total. Inc the £65 delivery!
They do know how to charge. lol.
Got my kit from http://www.greensea-hydroponics.co.uk
After doing some research I decided that for what I got at what I paid was very reasonable.

Although setting it all up has taken me all of today as iv never set anything like this up before and putting the grow tent up on my own was a nightmare!

I live in an apartment and my mum turned up whilst I still had stuff everywhere! was a close call and managed to lock my grow room door before she could snoop around and start asking a load of questions as im trying to treat this grow like a top secret special op! lol. I dont think my mum would be bothered but more worried about her running her mouth off to other people, which could blow my whole operation!

Anyhows watch this space and I will add more to my journal as things progress.
I will also get some pics of my set up on here as soon as I locate my data cable for my camera.

As I said at the beginning of this thread, everyone feel free to have your say on my journal.

I know growing is not easy and I have spent many of late nights reading lots and lots and lots and lots of threads on here. I feel im prepared for the task ahead but also know problems can happen in an instant. As a newbie I know things will probably go wrong in this grow but thanks to Roll It Up I know im not alone and the answers to most if not all of my questions can be found or answered here

I will try and keep up to date with my grow on here as much as possible with lots of pics.

But for now its 1am here and im ready for some

Ok so im on day 2 now and my seeds have been germinating for around 30 hours.

All of them apart from 1 have busted there nut and I can see the tap root just startin to pop out. but a few have really popped out and one of them must of thought it was in the tap root olympics as it was going for gold! lol ;-)

I have decided to transfer them into my root riots so the tap root can gain length in this Propagation medium as I didnt want to leave them any longer and risk damaging them.

one of my Flying Dutchmen didnt make it. :-(seed didnt even sweal up but got 12 popped and the first 8 to break through the medium will go into my pots.

One thing thats on my mind is do I need to give them some light now or keep them in the dark until they pop out of the medium?

Iv added some pics.
they just show what iv done so far and my struggle with the grow tent. lol
grow tent is not fully set up yet but this will be done tomorrow.

Them root riots look like chocolate muffins! lol
not good when ya got the munchies :bigjoint:

Just thought id add a quick update in my current situation in the grow room.

So I have got my nuts buried in the muffins and the smallest watt light iv got is a 250w MH powered by a 250w to 600w maxbirght Ipac ballast which accepts both MH and HPS lamps with a powersatr 1 way 1kw light contractor.

I turned it on today to give my seeds some light.

One problem!

Light is hung about 1 meter above the propagation dome and temps are hitting 33c/91.4f. fan is also on which is a 5" Systemair HVK inline Fan with a carbon filter.

I left the lamp on for about an hour to see what the temps would be like and decided to turn it off as I think that is way to hot for my babies right now.

Iv rig up some low light just to try and keep some light on them until I get this temp problem sorted in the next couple of days.

Im thinking some duct on the end of the reflector connected up to the fan. Just some standard 5" Aluminium Duct, but also from the fan out of the tent im going to put in some insulated duct to try and keep the noise down as the fan seems to be the loudest part of my set up and I dont want to try to attract any attention.

I think I will also try 2 computer fans on the other end of the reflector blowing air towards the duct.

The fan noise is not a massive issue right now but will be in the pipeline to be done in the close future, like a couple of weeks or something.

Temps are my major problem and going to try and fix this within the next 2 days at most.

As I mentioned before iv have set up some low light until I have my rig sorted. not to sure if these temps will be ok though.

Temp currently in the dome is 22c/71.6f and hummidity is 86% which is wet.

If anyone is reading this please take a look at these 2 pics and let me know if this set up will be ok for a couple of days at the above temp and hummidity.

Thanks

Also Im thinking if this current temp is to low maybe I could fire up the 250w lamp every couple of hours for 15 mins but im also thinking that this will cause excessive wear on my bulb and decrease its life span and also the lamp will draw alot of power until its warmed up and that takes about 15 mins.

Im thinking once I have the 400w MH in for vegging the temps are going to be higher!

I just hope once I get this extra duct and fans it will sort out this problem

Just a quick update on todays events.

Im still with the low light after yesterdays events but should hopefully have this sorted by tomorrow.

Temp at the moment in the dome is sitting at around 20c/68f and my meter is not showing any hummidity.
About half of my babies have broken through which is a good sign that I havent fucked anything up just yet!

Im now thinking that I need to get this heat problem fixed ASAP so my girls can get some good light.

But a least they are doing ok at the moment and Im also thinking that the low light will give the roots a chance to form well before the transplant into the large pots.

One more Pic of my progress :joint:

Just a quick note.

Have now got 2 120mm computer fans which will be wired into a spare 300w computer power supply. power supply not ideal and will be getting like a 50w one soon to run the 2 fans.

im going to connect the exhust duct to the end of the light reflector with one fan pulling air into the duct and the other fan on the other end of the reflector blowing air towards the duct. hope this works and brings my temps down.

also will get my 6" clip on fan wired up as well to blow on my babies.

Im hoping to transplant tomorrow into the bigger pots. i will be growing in hydroton Clay pebbles.

Most of my babies have now well and truly shown themselves.

hopefully will be set up by tonight for a test run to check temps before transplanting tomorrow so can give me time to tweek the set up again if need be.

Iv had a busy day today with my set up!

As mentioned before I wired 2 120mm computer fans up to the light reflector.
One fan attached to the exhust duct sucking air in and the other blowing hot air towards the exhust duct and an inline fan also helping suck air out.

Well this seemed to work well as once I turned it all on the grow tent was sucked inwards due to the high volume of air all the fans were pulling out.

But still the temps reached up to 33c/91.4f so this was not good

I rent a top floor apartment and luckily have some loft space. So I set ou this morning and monkied around in the loft and have cut out a 6" hole in the spare bedroom ceiling, run the duct upto the loft and fitted my inline fan up there as well.

This has work out very well as the inline fan was noisy and I have now eliminated that.
carbon filter is also fitted in the tent itself and I have more room in the tent now for grow :-P

the 2 120mm fans are now pulling air in at the bottom of the tent so it is nice and cool. I dint bother with the computer power supply and just used a small converter which works out great! A little re-wiring but will save money on electric which is always good.

Have had my 250w MH light on for about 2 hours now and temps are a steady 28c/82.4f and humiddity is around 45% which I am well happy with! Light at the moment is at the top of the tent so the temp may increase slightly once I lower it to the plants but all in all temps are alot better and I feel more comfortable leaving the light on 24 hours a day.

Temps and humiddity taken at the highest part of the plant.

They are around 2" tall now and showing there first leaves. 3 of them havent made it but the other 10 are looking really good. I will have to lose 2 of them as I have only 8 11 litre pots to grow in.

Havent transplanted into the bigger pots just yet as I am not seeing enough roots just yet but I think this will be done within the next few days.

I will add some more pics a little later on.

Its all good in the hood

Hi Stilzz,

Got my computer fans from my local computer shop.
They are fans pulled from dismantelled computers.
going to get 3 more this weekend. Only £3 each so nice and cheap.
going to make a box for my light ballast with the fans keeping it cool and
also going to hook the box upto the exhust duct.
The ballast is heating my grow room up to much and messing up my temps
so going to vent all that heat out of there.
my computer shop just has a box full these fans so it was a good find :)

Cool,
I am working right along with you. I have one of the larger tents and I just started running a 400mh on them and noticed it got pretty warm with no ventilation. I am going to check again to see if the temp leveled off or if it keeps rising. I have a g force still sprouting, a White Diesel Fem and about to dew a few Afghan Kush. If you ran the CFMs inside the tent and had one on the light and the other on the scrubber and you had the larger tent running a 1000hps with the ballast outside the tent do you think that will be all I need for the heat issue? Or do you think I should run a third fan pulling air inside like your PC fans? My setup really would not have any hot items in the tent. I also plan to run a 437cfm through my light The scrubber I think is about 250cfm?

Thanks

My tent is in a room which is about twice the size of the tent so it gets really warm in there
when it is all on. the light ballast is outside my tent but in the same room and after a few hours
it quickly warms the room up. The computer fans are pully a good amount of air into the tent but
once the whole room gets warm they are only pulling in warm air.

I am going to transplant my plants on saturday into there larger 11 litre pots and hook up the auto
feeder. Im also going to vent the heat from the light ballast through the exhaust duct to further cool the room.

I have a vibration free silent running water pump coming on friday and also 10 metres of insulated 5" duct.
this should help get rid of whats left of the inline fan noise vibration coming down the shitty standard 5" duct.
I am also going to run 2 lenths of duct from the bottom of my window in the room connected to the 2 fans
at the bottom of my tent to bring fresh cool air into the tent. all hot air will be vented up into the loft space
which is heavily insulated so will keep the whole room nice and cool. This should all be done by saturday night
and then will soon move upto the 400w MH lamp on 18 on 6 off probably in a weeks time. Im just running the 250w MH
for now till the transplant is finished and to build them upto the 400w lamp so I dont shock em too much.

There are only 9 left from the 13 seeds now. some of them didnt make it but I only need 8 of em so its worked out nicely.
Its nice and cool outside now its around 11c/51f so my temps should balance out to around 26-27c/80f so will be a nice temp to grow at
if it all works.

My last resort would be to buy a cool tube for around £50 and connect that upto the exhaust duct as well. but when it comes to flower
I would need to get another carbon filter for the loft due to the cool tube not first venting through the carbon filter in the tent. keep the smells down!

smells wont rise away as quick as the air is getting cooler around here at night. I recon when it comes to flower the temp outside will be around -1 to 3c/30 to 37f so need to eliminate as much smell as possible. a carbon filter at each end of the exhaust system should do the trick.

also another problem is my flat gets very cold in the winter so they will probably need a heater on in that room on the 12 off cycle. my temps will be ok when the lights on though. will have the 600w HPS on by then. that is still at least a month away though.

Just want to make sure I get my set up right for very good ventilation and tempreture control without making alot of noise or smells. there is a night heater in the grow room right next to the tent which comes on at midnight and goes off at 7 in the morning and then stays warm till about mid day which is perfect timing as i want them to sleep at night during flower.

so temps should work out very well during each switch over. my window in the room is only open about 5mm but will draw in a good amount of cool air during the day when the HPS is on keeping the tent cool. my first harvest is planned for the christmas holiday so its going to be a very merry christmas for me this year if my grow goes smooth after the final tweeks this weekend.

Infact im just going to get a cool tube as well. pay day next week so will have enough for all the extra kit.

iv already spent about a £850 on this set up and it will be about £950 after the weekend is out and then about
£1100 after the next 2 weeks and hopefully it will be done for at least this first and a second grow.

im hoping to make my money back on the kit after the first grow off 8 plants and then second grow make a little profit to help pay bills and shit.

just see how it goes.

Any way thats just a little background on my grow situation.

This is my first and I want to make it as best if possible so I can run it for a few years undetected. lol I plan on 4 to 5 harvests a year. 8 plants on every grow. aiming for at least 2 ounce a plant.

any way im mega stoned right now. Iv just finish my £10 bag of weed and iv been typing for what seems a long time.

some more pics on the further improved set up will follow probably on sunday. the girls are about 6 inches tall now. I will gets some pics up of them transplanted into the auto feeder as well.

right im off to go play war games on my 360 for a bit

take it easy stilzz

so iv got some more stuff turning up tomorrow. Got 10 metres on insulated duct. One vibration free silent running water pump. one silent running air pump with some air tubing and an air stone for the bottom of the res under the pots.

Iv also got a heat shield up to 600W to go under the light so I can have it closer to my plants after the transplant this saturday and another timer switch for the water pump in the res for the auto feeder.

got a nice wooden box im going to cut 4 holes into. 3 for the 3 120mm computer fans im getting on saturday and one for the exhaust duct. My light ballast will live in this box and should keep it nice and cool! :joint:
