First grow!!! Help!!!

Hi all this is my first grow ever. I've read and read and figures what the hell. As a new grower I do have some "things" to figure out and that's where I'm hoping you all will come in and steer me in the RIGHT direction lol. But onto my setup and equipment etc so we can get to my QUESTIONS and hopefully some ANSWERS. I'm growing in a walk in shower in a spare bathroom.

EQUIPMENT:
600 watt dimmable ballast with basic wing reflector currently dimmed to 250 watts (600watt hps bulb).
Fox farm ocean forest soil
Barneys farm blue cheese fem seeds
Panda film
Solo cups
5 gal fabric pots

My setup is fairly simple and straightforward. This is a shower grow in a non used bathroom. I gorilla taped panda film on all the walls but the opening. I'm confused about that as well like should I make a "panda film door" for that shower opening??? I bought an extra shower curtain rod and fitted it into the shower. Using the included rope ratchets I hung the light and wing reflector from said shower rod. I successfully germed 4 of the seeds using the paper towel method and paper plates. When taproot was "acceptable" length to me I planted them a pinch deep in four solo cups that I filled with the fox farm and that I had cut holes into the bottom of for drainage. 3 are doing fine and one has yet to sprout. They are almost 2 weeks old. Have ballast dimmed to 250watts on a 18on/6off timer. Barely watered until sprout popped up from the dirt. I use tap water that has been left out for 24hrs. Now I water once a day until I get a little runoff because the soil dries but not bone dry. I use paper plates for saucers. Pour the run off right down the shower drain. When they get bigger I plan to transplant them into the fiber pots and just let the runoff run down the drain as well. Heat isn't much of a problem right now. I know that this isn't everything I need. But I feel like it's what I needed to get started. I know I will probably have to invest in fans, nutes, filter, ducting blah blah blah and that's where I'm hoping you guys can help. I plan on getting some clip on fans today. Oh yea it's an apartment grow if that means anything so stealth is MAJOR but it's laid back. My goal is to get about a lb. So now to my questions
QUESTIONS:
1. As far as filtering. The bathroom is not that big. Should I aim to "seal" the shower and filter that alone or should I aim to just filter the whole bathroom.

2. Ventilation. I have a standard bathroom fan on the ceiling as you can see in the pics.
Should/could I use this to vent? And as far as intake would opening the door sometimes work or would it be best to run ducting under door to draw fresh air from other room.

3. There is an ac vent on the wall that you can't see in the pic. Should I cover and seal this or leave it alone to help with temp control.

3. Like I said my plants are almost 2 weeks and 3 are ok but one has yet to break soil. Should I germ another and try to repot another one?

4. Is 250watt enough light for the kids at this age?

5. What type of training do you think would best benefit this type of setup.

Any feedback will be appreciated

1- Would be way simpler to filter the whole bathroom.
2- Yes use the bathroom vent to exhaust bathroom, filtered or not.
3- That is the dryer vent. You could exhaust with it as well.
3- 250W is fine even for flowering. You can invest more later on.
4- Put a new seed in that pot. All the seeds I had popped in 3 days or less, very rarely more than 2.
5- Judging from your setup you could do some topping and lollypopping.

1. I was thinking that. I don't mind a little smell escaping as I go in and out of the room but I don't want my home smelling like a farm. Do you think I would have to seal the ac vent on the wall that blows air into the bathroom? I know leaving it open will be a huge plus as far as temp and airflow. But I don't want the smell seeping out thru the vents into the rest of the house when the ac is not on.
2. Definately filtered
3. What dryer vent?
3.(lol) No I plan to use 600w. Only reason I have the ballast dimmed to 250w is because I read somewhere that seedlings and young plants don't need all that light at first. My babies are almost 2 weeks old. I was planning on upping the light soon.
4. Ok
5. Thanks

You need a negative pressure in your grow area if you want to remove odor by venting outside. Then yes if you have an AC vent in your bathroom(I didn't know they put AC in bathrooms), you should seal it.

Also the light doesn't need to be close to the plant this early in the grow. Look up whats the best distance. It may be correct, but its hard for me to judge with pictures.

I know about the negative pressure. As you can see from the pics the shower has no door. I was thinking of "sealing" this gap with cardboard with panda film taped on it. Then cut out holes in the cardboard for intake and outtake. I figured this would be a way to somehow "seal" the shower and contain the smell in the shower. But what about if I just filtered the whole bathroom like someone else suggested. Like get a big enough carbon filter and just use it for the whole room. Would I still need negative pressure for this? And if so how would I go about doing it. There is no window in the bathroom. The bathroom is in an unused bedroom. Could I seal the bathroom and leave just enough space for some ducting under the door and connect a fan and use this as intake? And the bathroom exhaust fan on the ceiling as my outtake? Or should I try to utilize the ac vent that blows air into the bathroom that's not pictured in the pics for intake?

You can use a fan on the ceiling to exhaust. Your average bathroom fan has 75 cfm which may not be enought.

No need for an intake fan.
This is new... ok so no intake fan. But exhaust. Should I aim to exhaust and filter the WHOLE bathroom and use the ac vent for temp control? If this is the case would smell escape the room when the ac is not blowing even with a carbon filter. That's my biggest concern. Smell seeping through the AC vents when the AC isn't on....

If you choose to exhaust the whole bathroom you will need a stronger fan but you won't need to seal the 'grow shower' which I think will be much more time consuming.

As for the smell escaping the AC vents.
You can put a backdraft damper on the vent. It lets air come out but not come in.
You can also get these 10$ plastic things from home depot that go on the outside of the house for the bathroom and kitchen exhaust. Does the same thing.

I like the idea of just exhausting the whole bathroom WAYYY better lol. And that backdraft damper looks like a SOLID investment

Went and bout some new equipment yesterday. Got a small desk fan and have it set enough to make the leaves gently rustle. Also picked up a temp and humidity monitor. Temps are currently 72 F with the lowest over last 24 hr being 64 F and highest 78 F. Humidity currently 50% with the lowest over 24 hr being 41% and the highest 54%. Next I want to pick up a ph and light tester

I never water my seedling until run off!!! That is way to much water!! They only need a few ML daily until they are about 1-2 weeks old, then I'd start with run off.

Using the bathroom vent is a bad idea. I'm a contractor, I've seen these things over heat and catch fire. They are not designed to be run 24/7. The motor runs hot and does not cool significantly from air movement. I would also suggest he gets a small fan to avoid mold on top layer of soil from water retention.

Thanks for posting! When I say use the bathroom fan I'm not talking literally per se. I mean remove the fan cover and possibly the fan and connect my ducting and exhaust to the hole. I would never run that gun continuously like that. And I did install a small fan in there and I already see TREMENDOUS growth

Ya I see I jumped the gun there now on the fan thing ;) it will work for your ducting, however you are gonna wanna filter before the duct so the whole house and exterior doesn't reek. I would try and cover the door if you haven't. You don't want light leak in flower at all! Also do not plant from Solo cups straight to 5 gallon pots. I'd go with 3 then 5. I'm currently finishing my grow in a 5 gallon bucket. Over potting leads to over watering and thus mold issues. Also pot size is detrimental to root size. Your roots will expand and fill the soil before growing above ground resumes. Therefore you would slow growth at least a little up potting to quickly. Go light on your watering, read up as much as possible. New grower tend to love their plants to much.

So I transplanted today . Don't know if I should have or did it correctly but I did lol. They are a little over 2 weeks. I skipped watering this morning when the lights came on. Soil dries out fast enough in the solo cups anyway.... I prepped my fabric bags by washing and rinsing them real good in regular water. Filled bags with fox farm ocean forest. I proceeded to lightly water the soil no runoff just to get it wet. I then dug holes in said soil about as big as the solo cups. Then I grabbed a solo cup and just cut a slit down the side. I opened my palm and gently placed it over the solo cup. I turn the solo cup over and the plant, rootball, and dirt fell out into my hand. It's amazing how many roots a plant can grow in 2 weeks!!! Roots were looking good and looks like I decided to transplant at a good time because these plants seem aggressive. I know that most ppl post saying "knock off the dirt" but being a newbie and this my first time I just took what was in my hand and placed it in the hole/s. Then I covered with more soil. Haven't watered yet and don't plan on it until next watering as the soil is already moist and I don't want to overwater. Adjusted lights and will be looking for updates

Sounds like you did just fine. Just gonna have to watch you don't over water but all seems good. Next time just throw a empty solo cup in the pot as your filling it. Get the perfect size hole every time. Excellent if your using mycos

Also I transplanted them but I don't think I set them deep enough in the soil. I mean they are fine but I was hoping for a more even level of soil. The way I transplanted and moved the dirt I have a little "mound" around the base of the plants. I know I could add more soil but I don't have anymore on hand and have to order some and wait for it to come. Could I maybe wait until the soil is dry, dig up plant, re adjust soil, then re add the plants. Or would it be better to just maintain them as they are and wait for more soil. Will probably be at least another week before I get the soil in as I have spent my "grow budget" for this week on a 6in inline fan with 440 cfm, a fan speed controller, ph meter, ducting, gorilla tape etc

EXCELLENT idea of the empty solo cup now that I think about it lol. But like I said it was my first transplant and I was nervous lol
