What these pictures are of is my proposed grow room. As you can see, this is about a 5 foot tall room underneath my stairs I would say that it goes back for a good 10 feet but the actual space that I have planned to grow in is about 7 feet wide by 3 1/2 to 4 feet deep. So those are my dimensions: 7 feet wide, 4 feet deep and 5 feet high. I just ordered a 400 watt HPS light, ballast and reflector hood from HTG that shipped out today so I know that my lights are totally insufficient at this point. Hopefully I will have my HPS here in about a week so I'm needing to get my ducks in a row about this ventilation issue. The ambient temperature in that room with no lights running is about 74 degrees currently. With just that 70 watt GE "grow light" and that 17 watt CFL grow light specifically marketed as such, and with the box fan running, I can get it down to about 72. How hot can I realistically expect this space to get from running the single 400 watt HPS? My main concerns at this point are: What would you recommend as my bare bones ventilation method as of right now? The HPS set me back and there's a huge concert coming up that going to severely drain my cash reserve so I want to do this as economically as possible. Two of the plants are showing female sex and one smells quite strong on close contact. The others, as of yet, have not shown their sex. On the other side of that far wall is my laundry room. I guess I should say now that I live in a townhouse with three other apartments contained in this one building. My landlord doesn't have a history of popping in unannounced but who knows? To safeguard, I'm running my lights at night when I'm home and turn it all off during the day, throw the cord inside the room and block that door with part of my couch. I'm mainly worried about smell. With hopefully 5-7 females plants at any given time (HOPEFULLY) how big of a concern should smell be to me? I was thinking of punching a hole through that far war giving me access to my laundry room where I could put one end of dryer hose in my grow room and one end attached to my dryer duct to release the air. Do you think the box fan will be enough to cool the room? Can I rig a PC fan into that dryer hose to pull the hot air out through the dryer hose and out into the night air? I also have an outdoor shed in my yard that I could easily put a lock on (the latch is already there) and install everything out there. Of course, I would have an unsightly cord running out there but my yard is closed in so I could always say that was my room i redo furniture in our some crap. The smell concerns me tho because immediately behind the shed is a fence and a pathway my neighbors walk on. I want to do this safely, securely, and realistically. Do you think the shed will be better or this room under the stairs? Please help!
