First Grow Planning

Hello Rollitup readers. I have been researching extensively over the past few weeks about growing and I have decided to purchase a indoor grow tent from HTG. I'm buying from here because I live very close to one of their retail stores so I can just pick up all the equipment and save money on the shipping. I will start my grow starting the 2nd week of January so I'm trying to get all my plans worked out so I'm completely prepared. Now here is where I run into my dilemma. I can either buy the complete small HTG tent kit that comes with a 250W light and everything else I want (No carbon filter though!) and the total comes around to $480. My second option is to add each piece I want individually:

400 W HPS/MH light
20 x 36 x 64 - Silver Lined Tent
4 in inline fan & Carbon filter combo
ph tester
fox farm nutrients & soil

The total for my second option comes to around $560. Now I plan on growing auto flowering strains. Will the 250w light be enough to produce large yields on the auto's or should I go with the 400W option and spend a little bit more money? I'm also wondering how many autos I could fit in the small tent. I'm thinking around 4-5 would fit snuggly and produce around 6-7 ounces if I do everything perfect with a few strains from Short Stuff. Thanks for all your opinions! cant wait to start my journal after the new year.

Let's start here: A good grow will yield on average 1gram/watt

You stated that you were looking to yield around 6-7 ounces*** (28.3 Grams/Ounce = 168 - 198 grams for 6-7 ounces). In all honesty, you probably won't come close to this. These numbers are usually only achieved by experienced growers.

4-5 plants is going to be a bit squishy in a 3X1.5 area.
What method do you plan on using to grow? SOG, SCROG... Need more info.

I think that you are going to not be extremely happy with a 250W, so I would suggest going straight for a 400w. In hopes that you only achieve 1gram/watt leaving you with 200 grams or a little over 7 ounces. Now don'y be disappointed if you don't reach this as it is your first grow.

What makes you choose soil though? Let me know what you think, and if there is anything else i can do for you.

Take care

I'm now contemplating whether to get a 90w UFO LED light along with 4 T5 6500K bulbs as my lighting setup. Or I can just use the 250w MH/HPS lighting kit. Does anybody have any experience of using a LED light? Just would like some opinions thanks
