first grow plant problem

If you have at least 4 nodes, you can flower. You'll want 6 nodes to be safe. Depending on the strain, the plants will show sex anywhere from 4 days to as long as 2 weeks. Some strains will show sex in preflowering stage too. Good luck.

I don't know if you'll end up with "nothing" but your yield won't be as much as if you let the plant reach maturity. Many on here flower plants as short as 6". If your stem is a good thickness and the root system is well established you'll still get bud, just not as much.

Wham, based on your last post, I'd say you should flower them. I also thought sexing would be difficult but trust me, it isn't. You'll be able to tell quite quickly the males from the females. Even if you are unsure, you have time - the males tend to show their sex first and you have a good couple weeks between when they first show until they are actually ready to release pollen. You'll know way before then if they are male.

Post some pics of your babies so we can see.
