My first grow.
I recently started smoking again after quitting for over 25 years. I forgot how fun being high is. I don't want to buy/sell so I decided to grow my own. I found this site and started reading.
I read Roseman's CFL Bubbleponics tutorial. Every post. Several times. I took notes.
I read everything Uncle Ben posted.
I read a lot of other folks too but those two are my touchstones. I am older than most on this site. I am an experienced gardener. At my last house I had about 80 rose bushes. As I read Uncle Ben's constant attempts to get people to stop abusing their plants I thought of my rose bushes. Cut off the leaves to encourage bigger flowers? Absurd. Deprive them of food while they are flowering? Nuts. Uncle Ben's advice would work on my roses - so I listened. Uncle Ben taught me dope is just a plant. Roseman taught me how to grow this specific plant.
I ordered 6 Purple Wreck seeds from Attitude.
While I waited for my seeds I set up my bubbleponics system per Roseman's instructions. I bought a PH meter but not a PPM meter. I went looking for fertilizers. Following uncle Ben's advice I went for the Dyna-Gro. Nobody in my state carries their 3-1-2 fertilizer. Nobody. I even tried to get one shop to order it for me. No dice. They don't sell retail over the net. So I moved to Botnicare brand fertilizer. Not quite what uncle Ben recommended but similar.
I set up my closet. I bought a bunch of CFLs.
I planted 3 of my Purple Wrecks. All three sprouted.
I grew exactly as Roseman laid out. I topped using uncle Ben's technique for 4 main colas. I think I did something wrong because I did get the branching showing in UB's pics but each plant has a definite dominant set of two colas and two smaller colas. I feed my girls using a teaspoon measure according to the label.
A couple of things I have learned the hard way, that I will be changing next time:
I moved them to 12/12 about 10 days ago. Pics below.

A couple of things I have learned the hard way, that I will be changing next time:
- As the plants get bigger it does too much damage lifting the lid to check and feed them. I lose a couple leaves everyday now from man handling them while I feed them.
- I am going to design an easier way to check the water. A clear tube mounted on the side of the tank that is easy to see and shows the water level.
- Three plants are too many for my closet. I am cutting it down to two next time.
