First round oval leaves dying

Is it normal for the first set of oval leaves to die off? My plants are a little less than three weeks old, and the little oval leaves are dying. I do however have about three nodes on each. Also what is the optimum temp for the seedlings?

if the other (new) leaves are fine and show no bad signs then don't worry about the cotlydons (oval leaves)
Temp s/b in around 75 f

btw - if you have 3 nodes you are not seedling anymore but are most likely in vegetative state.
have u started nutes?

That's the thing. I'm using miracle grow potting soil. Which is asking for trouble. Miracle grow is notorious for having hotspots with nutes. However I put the potting soil in a large black pot like the kind you might buy a tree in last year and it's been sitting outside throughout the summer, fall, winter and in to the spring. So I'm hoping the soil has evened out a bit. So, I don't want to be overzealous with nutes. I over fert last year and ended up with three males. However I beleive I may have a nitrogen deficency, as well as heatstress. I will attempt to get a few pics and post back. Yes they are in veg 24 hr 6500k fluor tubes 6000 lumens.

get a ph meter, its a must even for newbies/cheap-assed grows.

agreed- check PH but I'd bet on N def. I use FoxFarm Grow Big.
Also, recently read that sex is determined when seed is fertilized- not env factors - which can contribute only slightly.
I usually grow 3 - 4 per strain, increasing the odds of getting at least one F to 4/5

Yeah it's probably not getting the amount of nitrogen it needs. Also make sure you flush every once in a while so nutrient salts wont build up too much on the soil. Also next time if you can try getting soil with organic material like bat guano and worm castings.

Letting soil sit out through the seasons is usually not good. Contamination by unwanted weed seeds and bug larvae/eggs most likely will occur. No good for an indoor grow room.

That's new, I'll have to check that out. I've always heard you can stress your plants into hermies, or males. I'll get a hold of a ph meter and test the soil.

How about the brown spot? Does that indicate anything? Because it's spreading pretty fast.

Can anybody tell me what this brown spot that is rapidly spreading indicates?
