hey I've got some questions about cfl's and wattage. my partner just got his med card approved for 300 plants! looking at making lights as CHEAPLY as possible. I've got lots of 65 watt cfl's that equal about 325 watts each. i'm looking at building lights using a socket plus splitter and running 2 bulbs through one socket. so my question is with cfl's as long as my splitter and socket max wattage is over 130(65x2) watts it should be fine right? even though it's out putting 650w? I've got 9 babies under 2 65w 65k and they're doing awesome :) about to transplant to their final pots and move the non mothers to flower by changing light cycle, nutrients, and switching to 2700k bulbs. sounds all good right? my next question is do I have to switch ALL the bulbs to 2700k or can I get away with only switching a certain percent? I've found the 2700k are MUCH more expensive so if I could only switch half, 75%, or some other percent to the 2700k bulbs I would save a ton of $ but I also don't want to compromise yield. any info/experiences is greatly appreciated as this is my first time growing indoors. also if anyone knows of a good source for cheap 55-65watt 2700k cfl's please let me know! thanks, sc.

Well to answer what i can, The amount of watts drawn threw the socket should never exceed the recommended operating amounts stated on the splitters and or light sockets ( ex. I have a common 2 bulb splitter, it hand handle 650w's, im only pushing 150w or so, the light socket itself handles around the same amount i believe, so i have lots of room to add more light to that socket/splitters)

And to clear something the 650watts you think those bulbs are outputting is wrong, The actual watts is the 65w x2 (130 actual watts) cfls tell you what they would replace. (ex. you have a oldschool lightbulb, its 120w's, you'd prolly by a 13w cfl or something to replace it.)

And IDK where your buddy lives, BUt i live in cali, im prop 215 and have never heard of a 300plant limit here, may be different else where. max ive heard is 99 plants.

and for every 2 2700k bulbs use 1 6500k during flowering, or half n half. hell ive heard of folks using 6500k and 5000k during the whole veg and flower.

sir/ma'am

if u have the card and allowed to grow 300 plants CFL is not the correct choice for u

a T5 system or even a 400w 600w ......................cfls are ment for ppl that have to keep it on the downlow .........the amount of cfls to over the area for a grow more then 5/6 plants u are in the range u might aswell get a t5 light or better

Not sure your situation but, 300 plants is a ton, that would take up a shitload of space and shitloads of more work to get them perfect. This has to be a typo. Do people really grow 300 plants at once?
Best bet would be outdoors man, in a big field lol

Id like to know Where the guy's friends got his card. What state etc, Ive heard of people getting together in california, all with 99 plant recommendations and grow as a co-op or whatever there called, It allows them to grow more than 99 plants in one area. Like if me and 3 other got together with 99plant cards we could grow 297 plants. But then again, even though my card says i have a 99 plant limit in my county im only allowed 12 mature 12 immature plants.

we live in bc, my partner doesn't smoke but wants to do balms/tinctures/juicing ect which need more cannabis to make...hence the 300 plant max, any stage. (actually 292 I believe but close enough) anyway we have a small trailer we're starting in before we can figure something else out for the rest and gain some experience before we take on all of them. the trailer will get warm in the summer and we don't want to invest much in it for cooling ect so that's why we were thinking cfl. once we have a more permanent set up to house the 300 we'll look at other lighting options. but for now cheap cfl's seem like a good solution. sooo good to know I can mix my flower cfl's with veg 2-1 or half half. that'll save on the budget. and good to know my bulbs shouldn't over load the socket :) and just to confirm...when it says 65w replaces 325w of a regular bulb that means my plants are still RECIEVING aprox 325w/65wbulb right?
