First time question

Hi first time question here,
An old school grower was telling me that he grows in soil with 3 months fertiliser built in , and just uses a normal garden hose ,no pH adjusted water. And when in flower if it needs anything , maybe gives it some natural stuff
What are your thoughts ?

I don't ph my tap water. But I do run it through a carbon filter first to remove chlorine.

I also have grown in soil with fertilizer in it too.

The one in the right front is growing in yellow bag Miracle Gro.
