In about 2 weeks I will start my first grow. I'm doing sog with a t5 only the whole way. this is because i do not have the money to buy all of the things to set my little room up for another 3 months. So here is my ? should I countine or dont bother? HLEP!

hmm. My honest opinion is wait, but if I were in your shoes, I'd be anxious to grow. t5's are excellent for vegetative growth, but when it is time to flower you're going to need something stronger that also has a yellow/red light spectrum.

I think you should go for it. This would get your feet wet. You will hit the trouble spots and figure out how to fix them. Making you next crop in 3 months even better. Just start 2-3 plants this time. Kind of like a practice run.

Because you are a first timer,, go for it!
Even if you don't finish them, you'll get the experience. (I'd suggest bag seed)
Experience make you feel good about;
Germinating
Transplanting
Watering
Light control
Temperature control
Nute application

,, and while you're at it you can experiment with FIM, Topping, LST, etc.
Hell, you can even get comfortable at cloning too.
Maybe stay veg until you get the flower system going? By then you'd have some nice mothers!

Just my 2 cents.

Good luck in your quest.:weed::joint:

SUGGESTION- Study your next step before you get there. You'll see lots of ways to do the same thing. Will give you a idea of what may work for you. Eventuall, it's going to be a system that you like and feel comfortable with. Experimenting now will make it easier & quicker in the end. Go for it!

This is my first grow and I am calling it my "PreGrow". If this is your first time, go ahead with it and give it a try so that you will have a better understanding of what to expect when you get to your "real grow". It will also give you a better idea of what supplies you would like to have for your real grow. I've already put on my wish list; FF instead MG, and that I really really want at least an 8'x4' grow room with (2) 400 watt conversion light fixtures instead of the CFLs I am currently using. Along with a 4'x4' nursery, and FF nutrients. I've had a good grow with the CFLs so far and will probably continue to use them as supplemental lighting.:leaf::leaf::leaf:

I say go for it. I started my first grow a few weeks ago and although i was unable to complete the grow it was a great learning process. Learning hands on is IMO the best way. I was able to learn their growth pattern, distinguish between male and female plants, the proper watering, organic fertilizer that seemed to work well, lighting; types, patterns, etc. IMO you should go ahead and start growing. Even if it fails it is worth the experience. My puppy found and attacked my plants, or I would have continued my grow.

Just germ those seed! Jump in and grow a few plants. As you make mistakes you will learn, and you can pick up more lights along the way.

you won't get much of a yield with just t5s. probably won't be very potent either. you could maybe grow with the t5 until u can get different lights. ive vegged a plant for a few months under only cfls, it got big.

It all depends on strain, nutrients, temps all conditions. Just start the seeds, if you still do not have the HI)D li0ghts by flower time, just go to Home Depot and buy a few of the 68 watt/300watt soft white CFLS. I got over 3 ounces of some ni0ce sweet buds from 3 of these lights once. This will be agood practice run while you are wai0ting for the better equipment. Better to get going now, and make your mistakes, then to wait 2 months and make your mistakes then.

im sorry but what a load of tosh your weed will be just as potent if you use t5s i grew lr2s under t5s 4 tube andhad 40grams of some really good strength bud out of it infact it was stronger than lemon skunk and ak47
if your gonna grow tall plants you might want to add some cfl side lighting to help lower growth though

yeah,i'd wait a bit..floros are good for clones but they won't grow a full sized plant..
This is complete bull shite

Actually, I use the T5 lights. I purchased a 8 bulb set-up for $329 shipped, and then added 2 more single strips for a total of 50,000 lumens. I purchased extra bulbs to change the spectrum. I use 6 blue to 4 red for veg. and 6 red to 4 blue for flowering. I get dense solid buds, although I'm pushing about 5k lumens/sq. ft. One thing I like is they do not get the room hot, also, they use less electricity.

Again, I'm only growing for myself, not for profit or showing off, so it suits my needs. As for cost, most HPS/MH set-ups are similar priced. It depends on what you are trying to do and what you are looking for. Researching, I found the T5's to be the best suited for my needs, as for lumens, they produce the same as HPS/MH, as for results, I really do not see that much difference. Several friends use HPS/MH lighting in their grows and my bud is just as good, just as full, and just as potent as theirs, in some cases it is better.

IMHO, use what suits your needs and is most cost effective. Not all of us are trying to grow huge quanities of bud, not all people have $1k's to drop on a grow set-up. Read up and go w/ what best suits your needs. "

'I love the T5s, I use them and i get tight potent buds. They have more watts and lumens than reg flouros. You wount get a bud the size of your arm like with a 400 watt hps, but with good training the yield is about =.

You also wont get high temps. I only need 2 12V computer fans in a L4x W2 xH8 ft grow space, and i only need them for circulation not temp.

Like lessismore said, it depends on your needs. I am renting an apt, so i cant put a hole in the wall for exhaust. So heat is a problem.Making the T5's perfect for me.(plus those thermal helicopters, not that many small home-grows get busted that way) "

When he talks about training he means LST or low stress training info here: http://boards.cannabis.com/basic-growing/91972-how-lst-less-stress-training.html

In fact, here is just about eveything you need to know :https://www.rollitup.org/cfl-growing/399709-my-first-grow-cfl-3-a.html

You can pick up a couple of 6500k Warm White Cfl bulbs at any supermarket or home improvement store.

I would recommend throwing a couple down. Getting a viable seedling can be difficult and the practice would do you well, I think, until you can get the stuff you want. :weed:
