sounds like fungus knats. Go pick up some mosquito dunks they contain Bacillus thuringiensis which is safe for you and your garden. Crush up 1/4 dunk per gallon and put it into water, then apply the water so that it saturates the top 2 inches of the soil not the whole container. The larvae live in the top part of your soil and that is where those little flies come from. They can be a real bitch but dont apply the dunks more than once everyother week.

They can do 2 things. The larvae are feeding off of your roots so you want to destroy them. How far along are your plants? The #1 thing you can do to slow them down is to stop overwatering( (you might not think you are but you are). let your soil dry out before you water next, I promise you wont regret it. Another problem with the gnats is once they can fly they will fly straight up into your light die and fall on your flowers, which are sticky right, so they make your flowers look like crap. I have seen some pretty horrible fungus gnat infestations before so you want to get on it as soon as possible. I know in the northwest they are particuraly bad this year.

Yeah the sticky traps work well for keeping the adults herded up, especially once things get sticky. Just remember that your more at war with the larvae than the adults once you get ontop of them your winning the battle.

get yourself some gnatrol to get rid of the larvae, the stuff works great.I battled those little bastards for months and it was the only thing that really worked.Iwas using miracle grow organic which i found out was the root of the problem, the eggs were in the soil when I bought it,maybe consider sterilizing your soil before u use it.
