Flushing soil

It occurs to me that it might be infact beneficial (unsure) to slightly dry out the plant before flush that way during the flush you could run water really fast through the whole plant ,because wee all know when you water a plant that is to dry it flows straight through , any experiences would be handy .

Same as above.
You can prevent water flow through dry soil by running your fingers into the first 1/2" of topsoil and loosening it (conditioning the soil iirc). As the water flows, it'll bring those bits of soil down and block the easy passage, forcing water to the center of the soil mass.
Eventually, I just put my placed my planters in a square plastic box with an inch of plain water in it, and that solved all flow through problems.
