I have mixed in one part MG with one part Peat moss and one part Perlite.

Question is...

With a minimal amount of MG when is a good time to start adding some Big Bloom?

I will be switching to 12/12 in a few days and I have just transplanted them to this mix 3 days ago.

Thank You

I have used a similiar mix in the past. I am a big Fox Farm fan. You are really supposed to use Big Grow through veg and into the first couple of week of flower. So I wouldnt recommend using it since you are switching to 12/12. There are enough nutes in the MG soil to hold you over. I would be more concerned with the soil causing you some trouble during the flowering stage. I would be worried it might lead to plants being stressed and hermies. I have used from sprout to finish but the nutes in the soil are usualy gone or greatly deminished by the time you get well into flowering. When I did this i used the low dose of Big Grow, Big Bloom, and Tiger Bloom. Always when starting these use no more than half the recommended dose for a week or so. Example would be if it calls for 1 to 2 teaspoons per gallon of water. I would mix 1/2 teaspoon in a gallon of water for a week or two, then move to 1 teaspoon per gallon until finished. Thats in MG since it has some nutes already in it. If you use something that had no nutes like a soiless mix then i use the higher dose. I hope this helps.

thanks for the reply. I have used FoxFarms in the past and yes it was tiger bloom instead of big bloom or both. LOL..I used them all at one time or another.

So what was the approximate length of time you waited to add the liquid nutes? I know I maybe shouldn't have used the 90 day MG but that is what I had so that is why I "cut" it with the peat and perlite. My thinking was that there wouldn't be an over abundance of nutes to hurt them. They have really taken off good since the transplant.

What sucks too is that I had different strains of seeds. I put them away thinking..yeah I will remember what they were. LOL...well guess what. I know from experience some strains require more nutes some less. I had some white rhino that went sickly whenever I gave nutes. The plant would lock up. That was with Fox Farms and the tiger bloom, big bloom.

At this point if I can manage to get a girl out of the 6 I have I will be cool to start the clones and use organic mix. Hopefully I can keep my cats away from them. They GO NUTS OVER WEED !!! I promised them the males.

I got one of those grow tents and love that damn thing.

I would wait a couple of weeks and then go half strength for a week then full strength after that. You should be ok.

you don't want to use the MG soil for clones. That's for sure. Well...unless they are rooted really good and have started to grow. How old are the clones? that's the key.

I have always had good results with this soil and I personally have never seen a Hermie or any other long term damage from the soil; not to be argumentative or say that you haven't...

Here's how I mix it for one 8 qt bag of MGMC;

1 part perlite to 3 parts soil..just open the bag and fill it to the top with Perlite, the bags are usually 3/4 full of soil.

Add about 4 measured cups of earthworm castings

2 TBSP of Dolomite powdered gardening Lime- This will buffer the soil so that it isn't so PH sensitive, you can PH your water to 7.0 and that's it (don't ask me too much about how it works, I just know it works)

With this formula, you really don't need any additional nutes, even through flowering, to get decent buds.

I have seen light feedings in flowering with Tiger Bloom work effectively, but flush the soil well before you use this and start with 1/4 feeding on additional nutes.

For seedlings, take some time and flush the soil well before popping your babies in there.

Miracle Grow is "hot" soil and will burn da babies.

If you find the MG mc soil you bought is awfully wet, I strongly suggest you dry it out completely before using it. I transplanted some vigorously healthy plants (already in MG mc soil) into bigger pots without thoroughly drying the new soil out and it burned them immediately . . . nothing deadly, but still.
I figure W-Mart had these bags outside last season, where some got soaked . . . then they moved that indoors, where it "cooked" until I bought it in March, by which time the time-release pellets had completely dissolved, thus creating a very hot soil.
After a good rinse, I was able to revive these plants. Other than this issue, this soil seems ideal, eliminating the need to feed until bloom time. As mentioned, be sure to water this soil until it flows out the bottom of your planter (and then some)

I did start 2 seeds in this brand of soil and the initial leaves on both burned to a crisp, but the plants are still alive and looking alright now (2 mo's later)
