"Former judge fired up on making pot legal"

steve lopez columnist

"All right, tell me this doesn't sound a little strange:

I'm sitting in Costa Mesa with a silver-haired gent who once ran for Congress as a Republican and used to lock up drug dealers as a federal prosecutor, a man who served as an Orange County judge for 25 years. And what are we talking about? He's begging me to tell you we need to legalize drugs in America.

"Please quote me," says Jim Gray, insisting the war on drugs is hopeless. "What we are doing has failed..."

"...a bill introduced last month by Democratic San Francisco Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, who is calling for marijuana to be regulated and taxed much like alcohol.

Does the bill have a chance?

I wouldn't bet a pack of Zig-Zag rolling paper..."

Ohhhh shit - Obama gets wind that the Republicans are making sense about finding alternatives to the drug problem, such as legalization and then rehab on demand, then he most definitely will keep prohibition alive. See, his is such an ego that it must be his idea - or it just doesn't happen.

But here's the thing - there is no way in hell he will be re-elected for a second term. His administration and policies set forth already are such a joke and scaring so many people that he's already locked himself out of another 4 years. And the representatives... gone. America is fed up. It is unfortunate that he has already paved the way for a STRONG conservative comeback. I hold conservative views, but I must tell you that what you will see coming in will be someone who is going to clean up some major shit - with brute force - and ALL eyes will be watching. People were lied to by Obama and his ilk. They will not tolerate the same, and they will have politicians scared to death to try the same.

Obama is cocky enough to shun his voters, like he did with marijuana reform. He will say and do anything to fatten his pockets and ego, and about the transparency promise - HAH!

How many of you STILL believe Obama sticks to his guns?

Man, you def have some good points, and I like reading your posts/news headlines.

All i can say is that he's only been in office for not even 3 months yet. He still *MIGHT* get his act together. For the sake of America, I hope he does.
