Freeze dried flower

I recently purchased a harvest right medium freeze dryer and poked around on the web to see if its possible to freeze dry my flower and yes I guess it is, has anybody tried this? If so, how did it turn out? What did you do?

Thanks,
I believe miss @curious2garden is the best person around here to ask about that. I'm pretty sure she uses one.

I absolutely love it. 24-40 hours from harvest to smoking. It looks, tastes and smells like it just came off the plant. The terpene preservation is amazing. I freeze for an extra 12 hours and I dry at 45 F to preserve the terpenes. I also dry for an extra 12 hours and I break the vacuum a couple times to check during drying so I reduce the vacuum pressure. I'm looking at adding a digital bleed valve. But overall it was the best tech I've added to my grow.

This is something I know nothing about.
Colour me intrigued!

So what did the set up cost to do that?

Like what @curious2garden said but we bought our freeze drier for other reasons like long storage food prep, drying my flower is just going to be another benefit of having one! The price sucks but you can use it for almost anything that can be freeze dried.

I’m a bit late on this but I love my medium harvest right freeze dryer. Sadly I have the older version that has 4 trays, and new ones have 5. We got ours just before the lockdowns really started to happen in April ‘20, but old house required us to retire for upgraded voltage required. Love it for my buds, but sometimes a real guessing game on how long they should dry. I made the mistake with my first try in full blast final tray temp. Realized I could adjust that and now dry around 55f with an extra 14-16hrs dry time, depending on bud size. Love my terps and look of my buds when they finish their cycle. The smell of sour blueberries from my Blue Cindy I grew last year, is still strong and intense. Only thing that really sucks is the storage because of their size, but mylar bags are handy as well for long term storage. Some past pic to share

So. Chop the plant and freeze dry and it’s the best smoke? So is curing a thing of the past now? Should I get a freeze dryer? I’d like to make one for dirt cheep if possible.

Might be harder to make one yourself. I think we paid back then roughly $6600Cnd, with the electric motor over the included standard oil motor (worth every expensive penny) The cure is pretty much done, but I did find a few got better with a boveda pack over a couple days/weeks. This for sure when I did my first Golden Tiger harvest, as I thought my first smoke didn’t do much. I dried it at 45f unlike the others, but a few weeks later it suddenly becomes a top 5 strains for me. I’ve grown her twice now, both taking almost a half years worth to grow start-finish. I did find it to be the perfect strain for golfing on, because I’m calm and loose. I’m hopefully going Friday or Saturday with my buddy to golf and you know I’ll be packing her long for the ride.
