I left my germinating seeds in direct sunlight for a few hours not knowing that you shouldn’t... would this affect the germination process

How are you germinating?

I've never done it but I germ in a shot glass of water with 100% rate.

If its paper towel method it might have dried out the seed may not, only way to tell is to try and continue:)

If you are new and use the paper towel method expect to fail, stop complicating soil and seed and leave that to the pros :-)

I germinate my seeds in Jiffy Pellets® and never fail as long as they kept moist ( not soaked).

The germination process could be affected if the seeds had started to crack open and then got dried out. I just put my seeds straight into soil. If the seeds are good they will sprout. They don't have paper towels and shot glasses of water in nature. Same thing with most seeds. There is nothing special about cannabis seeds that require a bunch of special steps.

And nature doesn't have the germination rate that we do lol. There is nothing wrong with soaking seeds first. Hydrates the shell for faster germination.

I germinate in soil in a red solo cup under a 250w mh light. I’ve never had a seed not germinate this way.

Bit of dirt in cup, moisten soil, plant seed, Seran wrap on cup till it sprouts plus a day or two. I also use rdwc and I transplant about 4 days after sprouting, I’ve never had issues doing this but you have to be careful.

My reg freebies got a 20ppm potassium nitrate 24 hour soak then into cana natural coco at 2.0ec and they will get 1.0ec at the next water and thereon in. If they need more ferts i'll decrease runoff and if they need less i'll increase.

But thats just for kicks, my fems for flower got peat and 1.0ec after the first leaves came up and have had that three times since.

I had some spare peat promix type stuff with zero ferts and started in that over soil this time.

Still if your new just put seeds straight to soil, ive seen a lot of exspensive seeds die a horrible death in kitchen paper :-)
