anytime I do seeds, I soak til they sink. Then throw directly into their growing medium... pots, ground, whatever. You want to make sure the tap root stays alive and healthy and can shoot down as far as possible.

I like the paper towel method mainly because what your trying to do is give it an ideal enviorment to pop..... soil and medias in general have some harshness about them in terms of controlling the atmosphere.

I like to soak for like 1-2 mins in water, moist paper towel... with high humidity in a covered container/dome in darkness....... I like to have them sit on top a heated mat/or light fixture to get it warm and wet in the inside of the area.....

I get spouts in 18-36 hours always and seem to notice the vigor it was born with carry through its life and get the spout moving through stages faster.

With the times I have soaked and dropped into soil or rockwool...... the sprout popped but seem to take longer to kick into gear.

just my opinion.
