My plants have gnats I was thinking if putting steel wool over the soil wand getting some rocks as well reckon this is a good idea?

Layer of play sand on the top of soil. Skip the steel wool and rocks

Elevating your pots will help a ton.

Also make sure you aren't overwatering. Gnats be loving an overwatered medium.
