Have you thought this through at all? Or are are you just expecting someone else to think for you?

If you are thinking about a car battery system with an inverter:
1. How many batteries would you need?
2. "Deep Cell" batteries are expensive, how much would this project cost?
3. How would you keep them all recharged?

If you are talking about an "Off the grid" system you need "some kind" of a power source:
1. Setting up a "Solar Panel" system this big would be extreemly expensive!
2. If you had your own "private" waterfall, maybe you could set up a generating plant somehow.
3. If you're going "off grid" why not just use the sun?

i think he was just looking for an easy answer to get off the grid, which i think we all asked at one point or the other....

but, above poster is right, OP. its not as simple as it sounds, and that plug in your wall is more often than not your best option.

lol how would it reduce costs? Sounds like it would cost infinitely more than using electricity. If you bought say 4 car batteries, that roughly $200. Now you have to find a way to keep them charged or you could keep buying $200 worth of batteries every time they die... great.
